Riverdale production halted, Arrowverse shows may be next

Supernatural will get its final episodes whenever they are able to make them. As for the situation in Vancouver, Canadian authorities are being upfront with how fluid the situation is at the moment. In all decisions, the most up to date information is being used but subject to daily revision. The shows may be up in running in a month or they may not. Vancouver is an international port close to the U.S. border that is all but shut down right now. Restrictions are being placed on international travel which could apply to the U.S. as well--thanks to the crappy handling of the situation in that country. We'll get the episodes at some point--I am sure. Writers strikes and other situations have had similar affects on seasons in the past.

How was I wrong in pushing back against what felt to me like unfounded assumptions?

Also, my comment about ridiculousness was in relation to cascading shutdowns of things, which feels to me like a disproportionate overreaction.
Have you not been paying attention? I have been pretty much looking and analyzing for a few weeks now, and I've driven myself utterly mad... Yet I see no way around this - this is the end of the world. Not literally, the earth will still be here at the end of it all, and so will humanity, but the toll this will take on us... the world that emerges on the other side will be entirely unrecognizable.

Let me explain to you what's coming. In order for this to end 70% of the world needs to be infected, which will give us herd immunity and end the outbreak. It doesn't end any other way. Let me repeat that 70%. Of the world. The death toll right now is ~3.6% but it will go higher - much much higher as health systems collapse. This thing will become a death sentence to an entire generation. Everyone 60+ gone. That's the direct effect. Now the indirect effects will be much much worse. For 70% of the world to get sick will take 18 months, during which time doctors will be working 24/7 until they die of the virus or exhaustion. Not ER doctors. Not hospital doctors. All doctors. They will be drafted and will be working on helping covid patients. That means no more urologists, oncologists, dentists, etc... If you get cancer - you are dead. Nobody will help you. Nobody will even be around to ease your pain. Many (millions or more) will die of simple treatable infections because all the doctors are fighting covid. And that is not the worst thing that's coming either. The food supply. First chains of distribution will collapse. Food will sit, rotting in warehouses as billions starve in our cities, with no idea how to survive without supermarkets. As starvation sets in, our base instincts will take over. The people with guns will have all the food, but even that might run out. And then whoever survives this (and I absolutely do not expect to) will have the unenviable task of building a new world on the ashes of ours.

And here you are complaining about a fucking TV show.

Obviously.

Watching movies about the apocalypse does not count as "analyzing".
I've been reading every opinion on this that has been trending on Twitter and... ok I will stop myself right there. I sound like an idiot.

Anyway, I've read a ton of information and the above is the outcome I personally believe will come to pass... I think I must be misunderstanding something though because nobody seems to agree with my assessment. Having said that, its also very possible that nobody wants to state the truth because there is no longer a way to avoid it...

You know what else will kill you? Stress. Try decaf. The virus is bad enough already without you exaggerating its effects prematurely and fearmongering.

Nope.

doctors will be working 24/7 until they die of the virus or exhaustion. Not ER doctors. Not hospital doctors. All doctors.

That's not how doctors work. They have specialties. A dentist or a urologist isn't going to be much use in an ITU, and the critical issue isn't going to be numbers of doctors (treatment isn't exactly complicated, medically), it'll be intensive care beds, ventilators, nurses, and consumables.
First chains of distribution will collapse. Food will sit, rotting in warehouses as billions starve in our cities, with no idea how to survive without supermarkets.

Got to do something while you're self isolating.

Because those people are smart.

Shutting literally everything down doesn't seem to me like it will actually accomplish anything constructive and actually fuels panic.... Which is why it seems like a disproportionate overreaction.

And, just so we're clear, that 3.4% mortality rate is going to decrease as we go along according to the World Health Organization.

Also, I understand the Riverdale and NBA shutdown decisions because they're actually rooted in a tangible cause.

I can't see that happening in the United States, because we will almost immediately run out of ventilators. Millions could be left to die, leaving the death toll higher than Italy's which is now ~14%. Given the absolute mess of American health care, I wouldn't be surprised at something approaching 20%.

Just stop.

First, everyone needs to calm the fuck down. These are just TV shows. They will come back. These are still people and have a right to be well and if there’s a chance one will get infected, it is possible all will.

Second, the majority of the cases are mild. Doctors will not work themselves to death. All people over 60 will not die, even though it has the chance to be more serious for them.

The best thing you can do is to be smart and avoid large gatherings. This is a virus that spreads through community contact. Do not take unnecessary risks. Stay in and find other forms of entertainment. If you can work from home, do so. Wash your hands. And for fuck’s sake, don’t spread irrational fear. That’s the worst thing you can do.

You are completely confusing being infected with being SICK from it. MANY people will be infected and never show signs, that is one of the dangers of this virus, people spreading it without even knowing they have it. Seriously everyone over 60 dead? You should really pour yourself a drink and relax a bit mate.

Look at China and South Korea, who are a couple of months ahead of the West with this and the number of new cases have peaked now. The real problem about to hit us all is a global recession that will dwarf the one from 10 years ago.

I think that is the big issue. It's the people who have it and are not showing symptoms. It seems to me at some point everyone is going to need to be tested unless the virus goes away after so much time but then I guess what can happen is if you don't have the symptoms you can pass it onto someone else and if they are family or a friend or co-worker etc end up re-infecting you.

It’s around a 70% chance that you’ll get COVID-19. As of March 3, the estimate is 3.4% global death rate. However those numbers might be adjusted down to somewhere between 0.5% and 2%. Yes there is a chance you could get reinfected. According to a study out of China, 14% of those who tested positive did test positive again.

So yes, it is something to be concerned about. In order to kick this, we are all going to have to make some sacrifices. And some of that may mean that your favorite shows may have to go on hiatus for a little bit. Yeah, it’s disappointing. Get over it.

I think most people understand that but just because people are frustrated their favorite tv show isn't on doesn't mean they don't understand the reasoning for it. People are capable of being rational but it doesn't mean we are robots were every emotion and action we take is based in pure logic.

I don’t think that some people in this thread understand that. I understand the frustration. But this all could be a lot worse. Let’s just put it in perspective.

The idea behind all of this is to try to do everything possible to stop it's spread. My mom follows the news pretty closely and she saw a thing that said if everyone isolated themselves for two weeks, that pretty much be enough to get rid of this. So that is basically what they are going for, just trying to get people to avoid groups as much as possible for the next few weeks to give it time to die off in people who are infected.
The other challenge with it is that it can apparently live on surfaces for 9 days, which is several times longer than the flu.
Look at China and South Korea, who are a couple of months ahead of the West with this and the number of new cases have peaked now. The real problem about to hit us all is a global recession that will dwarf the one from 10 years ago.
The only thing that kind of scared me a little is that my mom saw a video diary from a guy in China whose wife was a very healthy nurse, and she still got extremely sick from it. So even healthy people can get hit pretty hard by it.
Is this only stuff that's filming that's been shut down? I was wondering stuff that's onto post production might have better chance of continuing since that's usually smaller more isolated groups, compared to when things actively filming and you have tons of cast and crewmembers, and extras, and media all wandering around constantly.
