RIP Harlan Ellison (1934-2018)

This guy was an enormous influence on me as a teenager and young adult. I eventually got past my hero worship and started seeing his flaws, but he still did a hell of a lot to open my mind to new ideas and perspectives that challenged my conservative upbringing. Ultimately, I think I owe him a great deal.

He was also a ferociously talented writer, especially at the peak of his game (best captured in the Deathbird Stories/Strange Wine/Shatterday period).

RIP, Harlequin.

Reading about his passing feels weird, because just a week or so ago, I wrote a post in another thread about a Twilight Zone episode that was based on a story that Harlan Ellison wrote. He wrote an interesting story.

Sorry to hear the news. RIP.

Sad news. He might not have always been the nicest guy, but he was definitely an important writer for the SFF genres, and his death is a big loss.

R.I.P. Harlan. I had the pleasure of meeting him when we had a private party for Walter Koenig the day before he got his star on the walk of fame.

RIP to a sci-fi legend...

... does this mean nuTrek can now use the Guardian of Forever? Bring on the City on the Edge remake for Trek 4! (too soon?)

Weird as this sounds, I never thought Harlan Ellison would die. Death would come for him, and he'd spend so long haranguing her over this and that that she would say in frustration (and for her own sanity), "Peace out, Harlan," and never again bother him.

Peace out, Harlan.
