Rings of Power S3/Hunt for Gollum Anticipation and JRR Tolkien Discussion thread

Let me give another example regarding this company: because the films and shows they produce are entirely aimed at Christians, they are not shown in Islamic countries.
When saying Angel Studios' films and TV shows are not released in Islamic countries, only Christian-themed films and TV shows are being referred to. Films like Sound of Freedom, which are not Christian-themed, are released in those countries.

Two films set in real world places vs one set in a made up fictional world.

Moana is set on the fictional island of Motunui. There is a real world Motu Nui but it's an uninhabited spit of rock near Easter Island.

And Middle Earth isn't made up, per se. It's supposed to be our Earth 6000 years ago.

But The Sound of Freedom is pure propaganda and very MAGA coded.

Here's a perspective on Andy Serkis whether you agree with it or not.

It's possible; generally, aside from tenth-rate films like Citizen Vigilante, these kinds of films are treated like standard propaganda films, such as Rambo movies, and because they're made by small studios, they sell all the rights to foreign distributors. However, I've read in a few other places that this film is difficult to watch.

No matter what you do these days you piss someone off, The Rings of Power casts people of different races and one side is pissed at them, and now The Hunt for Gollum has an all white cast and the other side is pissed about it. You kind of have to feel a little sorry for people making these kind of movies, because someone is always pissed about some decision you made.
Personally, I'd be all for a more diverse cast, but I'm not upset enough about the lack of diversity to boycott the movie or anything like that.

Lord of the Rings at San Diego Comic Con. I suspect we'll get a RoP season 3 trailer.

If you didn't complain about Mulan and Moana, you are a hypocrite for complaining about Middle Earth casting.

Middle Earth isn't real, and nothing really says that there aren't black Hobbits or elves, just that the named ones we see are white. Did Tolkien intend for the characters to be white? Probably, but he was born in 1892 and while his work manages to avoid stuff we'd now consider problematic in a way most work from his generation didn't he still wasn't perfect and he had his own biases. Literally nothing changes in the story if some of them aren't white, so there is no reason to not have more diverse casts, especially with less important characters. Yeah the humans might lean toward less diversity because of how the human civilizations are set up, but nothing is different with more racially diverse Hobbits, elves, or dwarves.

Now I'm a big supporter of being as loyal as possible to Tolkien's work while adapting, and I'd side toward casting characters to be similar to how he described them, but there is no reason to not have diversity in extras/minor characters and its only a positive for an adaptation.

Comparing that to movies that take place in real world places is stupid, not having racial diversity in a movie set in ancient China is a completely different situation and its really disingenuous to use stuff like that to defend Andy Serkis being racist. Tolkien won't be rolling in his grave if there are some black Hobbits, elves, dwarves, etc. Of all the problems Rings of Power has, the black people aren't one.

Andy Serkis is a hack as a director, a racist, and a supporter of gen a.I. and as such, as far as I'm concerned, he can fuck off. I'll take a poorly written RoP over any of his crap.

I'm just gonna stick to playing Shadow of War, with Alastair Duncan being awesome as Celebrimbor. And Baranor being Middle-Earth Batman.
