RINGER: starring Sarah Michelle Gellar

How many Siobhán's have you known?

Errr... five? Six? That's counting the two business counterparts I have in Leixlip, Ireland.

How many spell it with the fada? :)
All of them.

I can hear SMG shouting "Sho-ban!"
 She said "Sheh-vonn", which is about as good as it gets with an American accent.

nope it's not pronounce Chevon and I've never seen anyone spelling it any of those ways.

It's pronounced Shah-vaun
Which is funny because I would pronounce "Chevon" as "Shah-vaun", or something so close I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference. If you're not in America, that explains why you've never seen the "Chevon" spelling or its variants.

Oh well, pardon me while I bow down before your superiority.

It might not sound to your ears that she's shouting sho-ban, but it does to my ears, and the ears of anyone around here that I've asked.

but then I'm only born and bred Irish, what the chuff would I know?

Yep, it's pronounced "Chevon" and generally for the sake of sanity spelled Chevon, Chevonne, Shevon, etc.

Shah-vaun (accent on second syllable) is how I pronounce Chevon! Or rather, the Chevon/Chevonne/Shevons I have known pronounce it pretty much that way. Maybe "Sheh-vaun" if you're being picky but that's awfully close.

I always pronounce names the way the person who has them instructs me to. It's rather rude to do it any other way. :rommie:

I think you guys are getting hung up on the wrong thing.

Anything's
better than talking about a bad TV show that needs to already be cancelled.

I'm intrigued by this novel idea that I should be pronouncing people's names in ways other than they do. It's never occurred to me that that would be perceived as anything but a deliberate insult. Seriously, how would you regard someone you just met who refused to pronounce your name pretty much as you do (with adjustments made for accents of course)?

I work with someone named Chevonne. I pronounce her name the way she did when she introduced herself. I certainly would hope that she is the only and definitive expert on how to pronounce her own damn name.

I rewatched the pilot I liked it. it made a little more since after a second watch I think I have a second show for tuesday's, yeah.

I think it's kinda neat that they put it on Tuesdays, which used to be Buffy's night.

... On other sites, SMG seems to have a bit of a rabid fanbase.
...
Usually when an actor is popular years after their show ends, there's something behind it.

It seems like every actor in a Whedon show gets insane support from all the Whedon fans. That's the only way I can account for all the support for Dollhouse. God, that show was just terrible.

As for SMG, I think she's a decent actress and she was well cast as Buffy. But I don't know how much of her popularity has to do with her acting and how much is due to Buffy's snappy dialog, the supporting cast, the general popularity of the show, etc.

It was OK but the whole thing felt a bit "Lifetime movie" to me. I didn't hate it but can easily see myself forgetting about it once the fall TV season kicks in.

Man, what a disaster this turned out to be. Sarah Michelle Gellar is clearly still riding on goodwill from Buffy, because the glowing reviews for this pilot made it sound like it was going to be deep and compelling, instead of poorly acted and ridiculous.

Who am I supposed to be rooting for on this show? With the exception of Special Agent Eye Shadow and the professor/boyfriend, there's not a single likeable character on the show. They're all sociopaths who don't care about the consequences of their actions and how it will effect others, murderers, attempted murderers, cheaters, annoying teens, and apathetic spouses to the degree where they don't even notice their wife has changed completely.

Mirror Universe stripper SMG stepped into the role of Stepford Wife SMG way too easily. The dialogue was terrible. The action scene was terrible. And Jack Lemmon would like to know who did the cutting edge special effects on the boat so they can improve upon it in his upcoming film Some Like It Hot.

I'll give it another episode because there can be a lot of change between the pilot and the actual series proper, but Ringer better step up its game significantly, because right now it's easily the most over-hyped show since The Event.

It started out pretty lame, but the twist that everything was leading up to the total collapse of civilization really turned it up a notch.

That said, I still haven't seen the last few episodes of season 2, so it couldn't have been all that great even so.

Glorified soap opera. I'll watch the first few episodes, hoping it will get better, but I doubt it. Besides, there are some great new shows starting this season.

V.

Wow, harsh audience.

I have to admit I wasn't sold on the show since I generally dislike SMG but I'm not even sure I'm going to bother watching my recording since it sounds like this show was pulled of of Lifetime's recycle bin and cast with stereotypical CW awfulness.

Well, I like SMG, but like I said, I ain't gonna get tied up in a prime time soap for her. Something espionage-y, and thriller-y maybe. But it's not looking that way so far.
