RINGER: starring Sarah Michelle Gellar

okay the pilot is tonight on the CW network and I just wondering who's going to watch? It looks like it's going to be a interesting new show staring:

  • Sarah Michell Gellar aka Buffy the vampire slayer
  • Nestor Carbonell
  • Ioan Gruffudd
  • Kristoffer Polaha
the others I don't really know. I am putting this in the tv section because I don't think this is any way science fiction.

Mmm yeah even Mr. Fantastic himself couldnt get me to watch this one. I think the only CW show I'm watching this season will be Supernatural.

I am going to give this show 5 more episodes if it does'nt get better I'll drop it.

all so we the vampire diaries and secert cicle on cw as well as supernatural.

Recorded it but it's not high on my list of shows to watch.

IMO Nikita's the only show on the CW worth watching. That show is more entertaining than it has any right to be.

Seen trailers for it, SMG can't pronounce the name Siobhán properly *grinds teeth* if I can hack listening to her mangling the name I might watch it, otherwise I won't. Can't be arsed with this Oirish nonsense - I can go down the street and see/hear the real things! (including three women called Siobhán!)

I won't watch it but my wife is interested in giving it a try so I'd be interested to hear what people think of it.

I hate to tell you, but as far as I can tell she says the name "Siobhán" the same way everyone else in the United States would say it. Definitely the same way that every Siobhán I have ever known has said it.

May take:
1. SMG still can't act her way out of a paper bag.
2. It's "Ioan Gruffudd" not "Loan Gruffudd", timothy. That's an "I" not an "L".
3. Dodgy CGI/green screen whatever during the "boat in motion while we're talking" scenes.
4. The premise and the plot interest me JUST enough that I MAY tune in for another episode or two, but this show is on a short leash. If it doesn't seriously deliver, it's history.

Slightly hectic life at the mo. Missed it. Couldn't DVR it. So I'll wait for DVD, unless it gets cancelled in two episodes. In that case, I'll just forget about it.

Blech. Why did I bother with that?

Sorry, Buffy fans, but I don't see what the big deal is about SMG. She's wooden and I didn't notice anything about her to suggest she has the charisma to carry a series.

And this series really needs an actor like that in the lead, because it's got nothing going for it, except some nice looking NYC locations I guess and was the redhead Mayim Balik? She was good anyway. The first half was painfully cheesy and then it just became a standard sort of thriller. The chase scene in the vacant loft was comical. The "evil Injun" character almost made me laugh out loud.

I was expecting more from Ioan Gruffydd. He might have been more interesting if he'd put more oomph into his role. Maybe he's still in love with the conniving bitch he unfortunately married, and could have put more of a push-pull type dynamic into his scenes with the fake Shiobhan so that they wouldn't have fallen so completely flat.

As for Bridget, a lead character needs to maintain audience sympathy and she lost mine when she made the deplorable decision not to tell Andrew that his wife was dead (and maybe even have sex with the guy under false pretenses - she sure wasn't acting like she'd have refused). Blech. Not cool. Even if she's "desperate," she still has the obligation to act like a fucking human being, okay? Explain the situation and enlist the guy's help in the deception. Anything else is repugnant.

Ringer gets okay ratings by CW standards.

PS I'm sure I'm spelling everyone's name wrong, especially Shiobhan :rommie:, but can't be bothered to look anything up for the sake of a lame series I've already bailed on.

Yep, it's pronounced "Chevon" and generally for the sake of sanity spelled Chevon, Chevonne, Shevon, etc.

And because there's nothing worth talking about where the show is concerned, I'll go check www.babynames.com out of random curiosity and look up the pronunciation, to whit:

Pronounced "Shih-VON" or "Shih-WAN."

"Shih-VON" has become dominant no doubt because it's simply prettier. Who would name their baby girl Shi-wan? Urgh.

New Fall Season: 0/2. Next up: the CW has a chance to redeem itself with The Secret Circle.

Hasn't anyone told you? Most people don't watch Buffy for the lead character. She's all right, but it's an ensemble show and the supporting characters elevate it quite a bit.

...was the redhead Mayim Balik?

No, not even close.

The "evil Injun" character almost made me laugh out loud.=

The WHAT?!?!?

To be completely fair, Buffy may have technically been about Buffy Summers, but she was the worst thing on the show. What made Buffy a good show was the supporting cast, the plots, and the writing.

Nope, didn't know that. On other sites, SMG seems to have a bit of a rabid fanbase. I think TWOP just voted Ringer the most anticipated series of the new season and eonline has been touting it too. Usually when an actor is popular years after their show ends, there's something behind it.

Okay... I have to admit that the last half was pretty good. I'll probably keep DVRing the episodes, but it's not going to be appointment television for me. Especially considering I don't get the CW in HD here (grumble, grumble).

The music was overbearing and the boat scene had THE WORST CGI ever. Other than that, I give it a C+.

I think Sarah's great and can certainly deliver a great performance. But I did laugh at Ringer's first episode quite a bit. And I do mean at. Just setting aside the plot for now, since I'll give it a little longer before I make a judgment (although those damn kids breaking into that locker was mighty convenient), the two parts that made this so amusing was the horrible section (maybe about halfway through?) where Sarah's narrating and the whole thing comes off like a bad show promo. In fact part of me suspects the promo I viewed not too long ago was mainly just this portion with a bunch of other shots at the end. The other thing is the greenscreen scenes (or whatever the technical term is). Could they not afford to shoot on top of a building? The boat scenes made me laugh out loud. This is particularly weird because I didn't think that one shot indoors where there's two Sarahs looked bad at all. And obviously there aren't two Sarahs so some computer magic must have been involved but it worked for me.

Anyway, I'll admit I probably would have never given this show a shot if it wasn't for the star, and that may end up being the only reason I continue to watch. I hope it gets better. Or at least makes me laugh often, intentionally or not.

How many Siobhán's have you known? How many spell it with the fada? :)

I can hear SMG shouting "Sho-ban!"

that's not how you pronounce Siobhán, and I have American cousins who are all capable of pronouncing it correctly

Yep, it's pronounced "Chevon" and generally for the sake of sanity spelled Chevon, Chevonne, Shevon, etc.

nope it's not pronounce Chevon and I've never seen anyone spelling it any of those ways.

It's pronounced Shah-vaun
