Riddick 3 begins scouting locations

Founder of DarkHorizons.com, Garth Franklin, is running with a piece posted on Vin Diesels Facebook page. I guess Vin knows so its fair to use as news. A 3rd Riddick film is scouting locations now.
Location scouting on a new film in the Riddick franchise has begun in New Zealand says Vin Diesel's Facebook page.
The post also indicates David Twohy has finished the script for the third film featuring the character.
... Twohy has indicated the film will be an R-rated feature and more modestly budgeted along 'Pitch' lines which allows him and Vin more creative control.

Vin Diesel had said a lot was riding on the success/failure of his pitch to revive The Fast & Furious franchise for a fourth entry. In a few interviews he stated a desire to return to not only Riddick by Xander Cage of XXX. It had seemed like a 3rd XXX was going to happen first but no news on that since September. Now it seems a 3rd Riddick is being given priority. I wonder is a third XXX is still moving forward in the background or if the studio has gotten cold feet?

Can the franchise revival of Vin Diesel's characters continue? Stallone did it with Rocky and Rambo so perhaps Vin can pull off the hat trick with his three characters. Time will tell. Thoughts?

Well, Rambo and Rocky were film icons whose films, aside from one in each franchise, were good to better. While Riddick on the other hand is a new age sci-fi strong man; he's no film icon of the future.

Having said all that, I thought "Pitch Black" was surprisingly good, and enjoyed "The Chronicles of Riddick" (though it wasn't as good).

If anything, this brings back Graeme Revell, whose film scores for the two filsm were enjoyable, despite his crap as of late.

Yes this is awesome news. Big fan of both Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick and Diesel has been teasing COR sequel on his facebook page for several weeks now. I'm not sure if this is the Underverse story that was proposed. All we know about the script is that it's supposed to take place minutes after Riddick assumes the Throne and go from there.

Lets do this! Hopefully there's massive amounts of knife slashing! Blood and space is a very grand combination. I hope he smells some more beautiful too!

So any idea what this "Underverse" idea is?

Somehow, it's going to bring the grand epic that was Chronicles back down to a "Pitch Black" budget?

So he ventures out of the Necromongers with a solo ship into the Underverse and changes somehow?

Maybe heavy on flashbacks to his past?

I think it's Riddick-ulous how they keep making these movies...

Only Pitch Black was worth a damn.

So, one movie that was worth a damn, and one that was not, results in a third installment being riddiculous. Really?

Especially since it's been almost 6 years since the second one came out. It's not like they're making an absurd number of movies all the time.

Films plural? There's only been one more since Pitch Black, unless you're counting the animated short film and/or the games?

Speaking of which, since I still haven't managed to watch CoR all the way through without nodding off (no joke, honestly) I would much rather see a film adaption of 'Escape From Butcher Bay' than more of that pseudo-fantasy tackle.

Yeah, I was including the animated film in the mix...

Hmmm...this is good news, especially if they do making it smaller scale. I LOVE Pitch Black but I was wildly underwhelmed by The Chronicles of Riddick, Riddick and Judi Dench's character aside.

I liked both Pitch Black and TCOR, so this is very good news indeed. The shift in tone between the films didn't bother me all that much, though I could've done without the Furyan Chosen One stuff. I did like the Necromongers, particulary Dame Vaako. I love Lady McBeths. I hope they are able to wrap up the loose ends at the close of TCOR. I want to see the Underverse.
