How do you know they thought so? I think it's more likely that the plan all along was to release a movie a year to see how long they could maintain their maximum profits and then take a break. And that's what they did.

How many times has Kathleen Kennedy been fired now? How about Alex Kurtzman? For that matter, how many times has Discovery been cancelled? Or Picard? Or Doctor Who? Why is this any different from any of those occasions? This is all about wish fulfillment and generating clicks. Yes. Eventually Kennedy and Kurtzman will be gone. Eventually Discovery, Picard and even Doctor Who will end. Yes, eventually Disney will even stop making Star Wars movies. And the morons who have been touting this shit will celebrate.
