Revisiting Star Trek Continues...

If STC were total crap, anything like what Trek has been like for seemingly ages now, it would be easy to dismiss and ignore as a wasted effort. But in fairness they did get some things right that I liked and even applaud.

The post production was generally quite good. For the most part is where you could really feel you were watching something from 1969. Occasionally they did something I think would have been a bit too beyond TOS’ resources or if TOS had done it they would have done it differently. The Enterprise itself generally looked great and far better than what was done in TOS-R.

I liked how they managed to make the Enterprise look populated again. Sometimes in TOS Season 3 the ship seemed deserted.

It was nice to see other aliens in Starfleet like Admiral Stom and the Andorian Commodore in the finale. Thats something TOS could have done, but never got around to doing although they did allude to it (re: the Vulcan crew of the Intrepid). I’m also glad we got Commodore Gray to show that women did indeed rise to command rank and position. Again this is something TOS could have done if they had bothered.

Regardless of what was done with the characters seeing more semi-regulars like McKennah, Smith, Drake and Nurse Burke reminded me of how we would like to have seen more of that in TOS. We would all have liked some characters appear again like M’Benga and Palmer did in two episodes. We could have seen Garrovick, Kyle, Leslie, Tonia Barrows, Freeman, Charlene Masters, O’Shea, Wilson, Giotto and others.

Some of their original scoring came off nice, but occasionally not. In particular there was quite a bit of original scoring in the finale episodes that didn’t sound right at all.

So I rank STC as a disappointment rather than a total write-off.

I am trying to remember, were ALL of STC's episodes filmed on a soundstage? I don't think they ever went outside for any scenes...maybe except for that Kickstarter video where Mignogna and Haberkorn were in a street scene mimicking Kirk and Spock in 1930s Chicago

Not sure, but I think it was all soundstage.

End tag of episode 1 was an exterior.

Episode 5's Civil War scenes were filmed on location with re-enactors.

By episodes 9 thru 11, they had their planet exterior set stage.

I'm looking at Is there in Truth No Beauty, where Scotty wears that awesome modified formal uniform based on the scottish kilt. Would the scots be the only ethnicity allowed this variation on the usual Starfleet formal dress?
Maybe Sulu wears a kimono variation?
