This is my first post here so I hope I'm doing this right and posting in the right place. I'd like to share my current project. As a model builder, I like to create original models from my own designs. Usually working from 2D line drawings, I've recently been exploring 3D as a way to help pre-visualize my concept. The Repulse heavy destroyer is a late-TOS era companion ship to my USS Sentinel light cruiser which I recently completed in 1:350 scale. This ship will be 3D printed. As with most of my ship projects, everything is designed - from the uniforms, shuttlecraft, insignia, deck plans, and crew casting:
Love the choice of Robert Mitchum as captain! I was originally going to ask which era you ship is from. Looks like TOS, but your design aesthetic sort of blends TOS-era with an almost TNG era look. Very nice work!
Do you have the details such as the location of weapon mounts, shuttles, warp velocities, range of service?
Great design! My only minor nitpick is that for a TOS ship, the registry number is a bit.... high. Most TOS ships have registry numbers that are <2000. Just my $0.02.
TOS-era, Ptolemy-class transports begin at 3800. I figured as an inserted new class of destroyers, 3200 was as good as any but finding a "correct" registry and number that doesn't conflict with everyone else's listing is an endeavor I don't wish to pursue.
Yeah - I actually kind of like the idea of a ship that, due to the vagaries of the nightmare that is the Federation Ship Registry Bureau, actually has a higher registry number than the ship with the same name that follows. It's like a big sign that says to all of those who have tried to make the system make some kind of sense over the years, "GIVE UP. The system doesn't make sense. *In canon*, it doesn't make sense. Even Spock doesn't grok it. Fuggedabout it."
She looks very good! As a side note, I found a sketch of her that you posted at Resin Illuminati forums. I also found your other ships there. Good work all around, especially the Shangri-La.
Thank you all for your kind comments! I will update as the project develops. Currently the model is being converted in SolidWorks for final detailing to begin the printing process.
Thanks Tallguy. It's just the scene edges settings in Sketchup. There are profile, depth cue and extension modifiers to give it a "sketchy" look.
Great work with this. The design looks like it'd fit in really well with the other ships in the period. Loving your choices for your officers so far.
