Report: Discovery moving to Netflix

I love the audacity of how after 18 years, they creators just decided, "Screw it! This is what we're doing!" The two-parter before TATV is the real ENT Finale.

Everyone else was Outraged (I won't even say "Mock Outraged", they were Real Outraged). But me, I just can't agree. I'm the voice of dissent here. But, if they ever pull that with DSC, I'll hit the roof. Which makes me a total hypocrite, but at least I can admit it. 99.9% of posters here can't admit when they're being hypocritical.

I didn't think TATV was a very good episode, but I actually like the Riker/Troi holodeck frame. It wasn't until MUCH later that I learned how that was supposedly a slap in the face to everyone on the planet, and it was literally the worst episode in the history of televised....well....television, and that any self-respecting citizen of humanity should hate it.

Ah well...live and learn I guess!

I think you were going for hyperbole, but you actually described it 100% correctly.

As a stand alone episode it was...OK. I think Riker/Troi was an OK framing device and they did well for the roll.

But, following up from Demons and Terra Prime it was not enjoyable. Probably not the worst thing ever but not enjoyable for me beyond the brief novelty it was forgettable. Of course, the Internet try to make it unforgettable.

According to this report, CBS is planning to move their new Trek to Netflix:

"We have exclusively learned that CBS is working on bringing its new Star Trek shows to Netflix. Currently the company has four new Trek series running on its streaming network CBS All-Access: Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Lower Decks and Short Treks. All four have struggled to find an audience and while some might blame the quality of the shows, my sources at CBS tell me they think the big problem is getting the word out about CBS All-Access."

I WAS excited about this...Since Trek is the ONLY thing I watch on CBS, moving to Netflix would save me money

Then I read its from giantfreakinrobot....These guys have used quotes from 8CHAN in other articles without even mentioning how unreliable that place is.

8Chan! People

So their credibility is ZIP, ZERO

The problem with TATV is if you are an Enterprise stan who cares about the characters, it was worse than nothing at all. No sense of closure. Big time jump forward and nothing changed at all, and Trip died randomly. Didn't even get to see Archer's crowning moment of glory.

I don't give a shit about the characters, so it was meh to me.

As much as I would hate Discovery and Picard to get the TATV treatment, I would dare them to do it for Lower Decks. It would be a hoot.

Enterprise was pretty much a dead man walking by season 4. Serialization didn't kill it and episodic wouldn't have saved it. And I say that as a fan of Enterprise. I loved the show, but I have mixed feelings about Season Four. The fan service made me squee and groan at the same time. TATV just made me groan.

my goodness, when I see this...were they cursed from DS9 on when it came to ratings? I mean seriously, did J Michael Straczynski or someone get a witch doctor to hex them or something?
DS9's ratings weren't that bad for first-run syndication, likewise Voyager was one of the highest rated shows on UPN. It's just that TNG was a huge hit that got numbers even network shows would love to see that anything less than that was viewed as an automatic failure.

Season 4 of Enterprise is the one season of the franchise where you pretty much have to live and breathe Star Trek in order to understand it. Which is why I love it.

I love how I decided to give Enterprise another chance at the beginning of the Quarantine, I rated it, and my opinions relatively lined up with most of the opinions of actual ENT Fans... but then the rating I gave "These Are the Voyages" is the only one that got anyone's attention. :p

I struggle to see any reason CBS would move their Trek material off of All-Access.

Since this is a TATV thread now, I'll say that I think as a stand alone episode it was fine. In fact I would have been so excited by Riker and Troi being back. If it were a standalone episode. As a series finale? Nope.

The entire season built up the founding of the federation and we didn't get to see Archer's speech. And then there was that pointless death. At least Shran was in it.

Demons is the real finale in my mind.

Just for the record, even though it's not my favorite show, the first two seasons of Enterprise is the best Star Trek there is.
Unfortunaltely, you’re in the minority. Ent had about 12-5 to 13 million people show up for the pilot. By the end of season 2 that audience had shrunk by about 2/3. Season 3 started with an audience of a little over 2 million.

Not saying that the episodic nature of the first two seasons, but it apparently didn’t help. Season 3 was the first show of strength since the pilot.
But when we are talking about sci-fi or weird shows like The Outer Limits or Creepshow, it works so much better if it's episodic. You can do so much with it.
Hello, X~Files, Agents of Shield, NuBSG, The Expanse, Fringe, etc.
I thought the first 2 season of ENT were awesome, but I didn't think Bakula made a great captain. I also think the first 3 season of DS9 were the best and that VOY is better than DS9.
Good lord.

I don't know where this report came from but you guys do realize that Netflix originally paid for the majority of the production costs of Star Trek Discovery season 1 and that's why it's been on Netflix internationally. Netflix has been co-producing Star Trek Discovery cost-wise since day one.

Picard is not on Netflix internationally; but it is on Amazon Prime internationally; but that's only because Amazon outbid Netflix when CBSAA was offering the series.
