Remastered Shore Leave Preview up!

I wonder if they CGI'd the Zero during the strafing scene. Only kidding, it actually does look pretty good from the preview.

I e-mailed Okuda about CGIing me in behind Yeoman Hottness, flailing away at her and flashing gang signs.

We'll see if I made it.

Joe, odd

Ah... Yeoman Barrow's and the ripped tunic. mmm. Yes, the memories. :p

One of my favorite eps!!! Written by Norman Spinrad.

Theodore Sturgeon (But you knew that).

Here's hoping that awful stock footage of the WWII fighter planes is replaced by new CGI aircraft. After all, the dialogue keeps saying there's just one plane in the sky but for a moment the unedited stock reel shows two. And the planes are different from shot to shot.

Well dip me in shellack. I stand corrected. :p

The thing about the plane is that it noticeably goes from being a US Navy plane to a Japanese Zero!

^
Exactly!

Phil Farrand in his 1994 NITPICKER'S GUIDE noticed the exact same things. The dialogue says there's only one plane in the sky, but the stock footage shows two...and not only that, but the plane changes from a U.S. Navy fighter/torpedo bomber to a Japanese Zero in a matter of a few moments! :wtf: :guffaw:

This is easy to fix with a new CGI plane, like they created for the F-104 interceptor shots of "Tomorrow is Yesterday." Just show a new plane from a new angle.

The closeup of the plane firing its guns in the preview is still the same ol' studio Hellcat footage, so I'm guessing they didn't bother.

^
Or maybe the original close-up was adequate enough and they just CGI'd the shots of the plane from a distance during its flyover and strafing runs? Would work for me. As long as some of the old sequence were redone, I'd be cool with it.

^ What, and get rid of the charm of Star Trek? :p

I'd have CBS Digital spend the time instead ripping Yeoman Barrows' blouse more.

Or how about this:

Early in the episode, Sulu takes the gun he finds and shoots the rabbit. The crew builds a fire and puts the carcass on a spit. The rest of the episode is a ship-wide picnic on a paradise planet. I can see Spock and McCoy tied together for a three legged race. Sulu and Chekov are off playing Frisbee. Kirk and Ruth disappear into the bushes for a half an hour. A pick-up football match with red shirts versus blue. Hilarity ensues. Watermelon, anyone, this time without blue or green food coloring?

And/or replacing the "Ruth" actress with someone else. She always looked waaaaayyyyy too told for William Shatner's Kirk.

I always thought of it as a deliberate choice, that she was meant to be "the older woman" in young Kirk's backstory.

(young as in academy days)

Kirk liked older women back then. She taught him that thing with the thumb.

Maybe a little CGI nipple action. A hint of bush.

That's what computers are for!

Joe, Boiling for Barrows

Give Barrows nipple pasties and a cute butterfly tattoo just above her funbox.

Just an idea.
