"Religulous" snubbed by Oscar!!!

Well, obviously, it's not how a film is about what it's about, as it sbhould be, it's really about what's it's about. Religulous has seemed to get under the skin of the PC acedmy, and was snubbed!

What do you think? Even if you hate the film, do you think Religion was just SO taboo that they couldn't even nominate it?

I liked Religulous quite a bit, but I don't know if it was Oscar worthy. I didn't see any of the other documentaries nominated.

As long as Expelled wasn't on the list everything is good.

Agreed. It's basically an interview bit in full-length feature form.

Loved it, but not a "cinematic feast" by any means.

It was a funny film, but it is a bit shallow. However, I do credit it for helping me put my thoughts on religion in order.

IIt's odd that you'd call it shallow. First and foremost it's a comedy. Most movies wouldn't even touch religion with a 10 foot pole, so it's deeper than those films.

I found it really funny, but it didn't really surprise me in anyway. Maher didn't really learn anything, he just reinforced his own viewpoints. I think the best documentaries have the person doing it growing with the audience as part of the experience.

Religulous was basically just Maher making fun of people he disagrees with; fine for what it is, but not really much of a documentary.

I would have figured that Religulous would have been this year's "Michael Moore" pick though.

It really doesn't mock Judaism at all. It mocks some really really strange people within Judaism, but the religion itself remains unscathed.

I don't think it was Oscar worthy. I thought it was good, but it dragged in places. I do agree that the committee might have passed it over because they either didn't like the subject, OR they felt pressure from religious groups (although they pretty much universally hate Hollywood already).
