"Religulous" snubbed by Oscar!!!

Maher fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: never go in against Scientology when an Oscar is on the line! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha... [clunk]

I liked Religulous quite a bit, but I don't know if it was Oscar worthy. I didn't see any of the other documentaries nominated.

As long as Expelled wasn't on the list everything is good.

Incon-something-something!

It was a funny film, but it is a bit shallow. However, I do credit it for helping me put my thoughts on religion in order.

IIt's odd that you'd call it shallow. First and foremost it's a comedy. Most movies wouldn't even touch religion with a 10 foot pole, so it's deeper than those films.

I found it really funny, but it didn't really surprise me in anyway. Maher didn't really learn anything, he just reinforced his own viewpoints. I think the best documentaries have the person doing it growing with the audience as part of the experience.

How'd it do in the comedy category?

Oh, wait...

Religulous was basically just Maher making fun of people he disagrees with; fine for what it is, but not really much of a documentary.

Standard Operating Procedure and Man on Wire seem like shoe-ins.
I would have figured that Religulous would have been this year's "Michael Moore" pick though.

I don't think it was Oscar worthy. I thought it was good, but it dragged in places. I do agree that the committee might have passed it over because they either didn't like the subject, OR they felt pressure from religious groups (although they pretty much universally hate Hollywood already).
