Religion and Star Trek

Heck, with Q's help, Picard himself was instrumental in the destruction and creation of all life on Earth, so maybe he just has a lot of self-confidence and believes in himself. ;)

Q is a "superior" power, and Picard KNOWS he exists. Doesn't make him a deist.

Q is not real. And even if he was real, we don't really know what he is. The info we get about him are contradictory. Once he says that he's always existed and the next time he speaks he tells you that he's four billion years old???

Of all the trek species, the Qs are among the most ill-defined and contradictory. IWO the Qs are a joke.

Picard did not conclude the existence of a deity, so that couldn't possibly be deism.

He said "I believe..." followed by a bunch of assumptions amounting to "a deity" , "a superior being " or whatever.

Agnostics don't believe in "superior beings". They DON'T KNOW.

That's why they are called "agnostics".

Q is not real.
He's real in the Star Trek universe, which is what we're talking about here. Remember?

So no more or less honest than your average deity.

Again, just like your average Deity.

All Picard says is he thinks there is more to life than the obvious. He doesn't mention gods or spirits or reincarnation or anything. He just admits he thinks there's more but he's not sure what it is. He is agnostic.

That's not the way the series put it.

First Riker has been a Q for a while and the transformation either way has been instantaneous. Q lost his powers once, so did his son. In both cases they were no different than regular human beings when that happened. Most religious people don't believe that they can become gods at the drop of a hat. Plus it's been intimated that human beings could eventually supplant the Qs. All of that doesn't say "gods" but (technologically) advanced beings, IE the Qs were just like the humans sometime ago and their technology evolved to a point where it's completely incomprehensible to us. When he lost his powers Q's son used technology to get what he wanted, Q's wife modified voyager so that they could rejoin the continuum, even though she had lost her powers. They're not superiors beings; they're just technologically superior ordinary beings.
