Isn't that pretty much what XI was? Taking Trek back to its roots, bringing back the sense of adventure that had faded with the familiarity of the 24th century (and the blandness of ENT).Would people be upset if the Enterprise era was reimagined and/or ignored per se with another prequel that represented an origin and new beginning?
TATV wouldn't fit into Pegasus even if you tried to drive it in with sledgehammer.
^It was necessary to tell new stories with Kirk, Spock and the rest of the TOS crew. Otherwise it becomes an exercise in cotinuity pornography - merely "scenes before TOS" and not the fun new anything-can-happen direction it was (well.... for those who enjoyed the movie, at least)
