I don't see why a reboot has to address or disavow anything. Just side step it. How hard can that be? No major gross contortions or distortions. It's a big universe. Archer was one of many Captains. How hard could it be to steer clear of and avoid his initial tourist mission? It could take place both before and after Enterprise conceptually and a specific era doesn't even have to be revealed. If there is references to Archer, so much the better, nobody cares. He could just be a reference to any Starship Captain, except that he was only one of the first early explorors, still alive or not can be left ambigeuos and is irrelovant. Of course if there is a way to side step JJ's verse so much the even better.
Isn't that pretty much what XI was? Taking Trek back to its roots, bringing back the sense of adventure that had faded with the familiarity of the 24th century (and the blandness of ENT).
Yea, but it also dumped that future as well which is not necessary. It's a big universe that those other shows just play a small part in. Kirk was one of twelve starship captains in his time doing long range exploration missions. J.J.s long term designs on the franchise non withstanding.
^It was necessary to tell new stories with Kirk, Spock and the rest of the TOS crew. Otherwise it becomes an exercise in cotinuity pornography - merely "scenes before TOS" and not the fun new anything-can-happen direction it was (well.... for those who enjoyed the movie, at least)
Sorry. I didn't know he was planning on doing a million stories. That's the kind of pornography that I would enjoy. Of course anything can't happen if you don't rip their future out from under them.
