Registering for gifts

to sign a legally binding contract that will allow me to dispose of 2/3rds of my possessions AND 95% of my income should I ever stop loving her. :)

:guffaw:

I think, if I get married, I will register at a liquor store and just tell everyone to provide their own booze for the reception. That way we won't have to pay for a bartender (although I am a bartender, so I could really just do it myself).

I think a list makes sense - no point people getting you stuff you don't want, already have or, even more likely, people buying you multiples of the same item. People buy you stuff for weddings anyway; might as well structure it a little. And you can have a wide enough range of items (as well as allow items to be split across a group/family/friends/whatever) that's there's something for everyone to be able to easily afford, so actually you can end up saving people money on what they'd otherwise spend.

For me personally, yes registering is a tad bit presumptuous. But on the other hand, if ou don't register, some people get mad.

In my opinion, instead of asking people to go buy you a bunch of overpriced stuff, I would just give the best wedding present ever. Cash or check, then the couple can go spend money on whatever they want.

for example, why register for a $20 toaster? How bout get a $25 check, buy an $8 toaster and pocket the rest for later?

just my two cents. :)
