Redo the Friday's Child Klingon ship?

When the Klingon Bird of Prey decloaked, it was immediately identified as a Klingon Bird of Prey. If Kruge stole the ship, Sulu would have said Romulan Bird of Prey.

Yes, that's true. In the end they decided to change the script so that it was a Klingon ship. But I still like the idea that it was a product of the Klingon-Romulan alliance/exchange that was alluded to in season three.

The way I look at it, they traded D7s for a cloaking device. It would explain why Klingons now have cloaking devices and Romulans had D7s (for an episode ;) ).

I *hate* the idea of Klingons using Birds of Prey, particularly before any collaboration with the Romulans. It's just so stupid and unecessary. Let the Klingons have their own aesthetic.

Exactly! Thank you.

Too be fair, Klingon Bird of Preys and Romulan Bird of Preys look nothign alike (which is why that, aside from fan interpretations, there's no reason to think that the Romulans designed the ship). Enterprise's Klingon Bird of Prey even has similar proportions to the D7.

It was still all part of the great Romulan/Klingon personality transplant which was completed around TNG. Feh.

Why not give the Gorns a ship called the "Enterprise"? It doesn't have to look much like the Enterprise, after all...

you guys are absolutely right, my mistake. doesn't kras say something like "...a small scout ship, captain" when kirk is holding that knife to his throat?

it'd be pretty cool to a CGI klingon scout of the era, maybe a matt jeffires-style precursor to the bird of prey seen in TSFS. i definitely want to see something besides a flatiron...

Something like the Raptor-class scout seen in ENTERPRISE("Sleeping Dogs")might work well. Just a little different to reflect the passage of a century of Klingon space technology.

agreed, that would be cool, & i am all for them using an ENT (or ENT-derived) design for the TOS-era klingon scout. i have this feeling, though, that they'll waffle the issue, in more or less the same way they did the gorn ship from "arena."

That's different. We weren't even suppose to see a Gorn ship, at least nowhere near up close. The fans are lucky CBS bended a few rules, allowing us to see anything at all.

"Friday's Child" is another matter. Here we actually got to see a Klingon vessel on the main viewscreen, albeit in the far distance. I have a feeling the updated scout ship will still be far away, but a little more stark with surface detail.

They might blend the movie/TNG-era Bird of Prey and ENTERPRISE Raptor designs to create a hybrid. A compromise.

Maybe they'll also try to mirror the original design somewhat.

I wonder if they are going to add "color effects" or some kind of glow around the ship that mirrors what they did with the original ship (would add fuel to my theory that it was used to disguise what the ship was).

NEWS FLASH!

I was over on trekmovie.com this morning and I saw a remastered version of this ship there. Posting it must have been a mistake because a few minutes later it was gone, but before it disappeared, I grabbed the pic. As a scoop on future remastered Star Trek, here it is:

And they added a voiceover line from Scotty when it appears:

Mr. Scott: "You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll kiss three bucks goodbye."

The ship is suppose to be slender and bright green with a lime trim. And the starfield is all wrong! Blasphemy!

dammit you shouldnt have told anyone

anyway what I do know is that like in the original, the ship is going to appear fairly small, so you wont realy get a good look at it.

hope to have a preview pic of it of course as the ep gets closer

SCOTTY:"Borgas frat!!!

Evasive maneuvers, Mister Sulu! Keep any and all cotton shirts and trousers out of her way! She looks like she's set to bloody 'HIGH' !!!"

Fridays_Childiron.jpg

Sulu: Klingons have activated their "permanent-press array"

Scotty: Lets give 'em a run through the dryer so hard they end up in the 1980's.

Sulu: 1980's?

Scotty: Lad, do you not know that's when T-shirt Cling-ons were falling apart all over the place?

Sulu: No.

Scotty: So many plain white shirts left wasted.

SCOTTY:"Bloody hell...

Evasive maneuvers...maximum impulse!!! Stay clear of her, Mister Sulu...don't let the bonnie lass slip too close to us. Everyone knows velour shrinks under intense heat...and there's not a bloody starbase with a quartermaster for parsecs..."

^ :p

Kirk - Can we engage them with a reasonable possibility of victory?
Scotty - No question. Their power is simple steam.

Looks at the pic of the main view screen & gets flashbacks to....

HARDWARE WARS !

May the FARCE be with you.....

KIRK:"DAMMIT...

Sulu, bring us about...180 degrees!!! Maximum warp!!!

Martha Stewart is somewhere around here!!!"

Overall, I'm excited to see what they'll do next week. And what Klingon ship will be shown on Errand of Mercy (A D7 Klingon Battle cruiser destroyed after one or two hits?). I want to see other TOS Klingon ships besides the D7s.
