Wow - it has been a long time ago when i stopped watching something mid movie.
The entire movie dragged on, stock characters, terrible dialogue and after the first slow mo fight i was over it yet they kept on coming. I doubt watching the big CGI pieces in a proper movie theater woudl have saved it.
Maybe i'll watch it some time later just to complete it but i'm in no hurry. I certainly won't be waiting for the second part or even a director's cut for this one.

Slowmo = Emotions
This was painfully dull. The exposition was bad. The repetitiveness was bad. The poorly developed characters were bad. Only one of the recruits were interesting but they all ceased to do anything once they joined up.
In other words, Snyder fanatics have already declared it to be the best film of the year.

Zack Snyder uses slow-mo the way JJ Abrams uses lens flare.Not to mention more slow-motion scenes than Baywatch.

You people are destroying every single trace of excitement I had in seeing this movie.
At this point should I wait directly for the "director's cut" or skip the whole thing? Because I'm seriously starting to think that we probably won't see any more chapters of the saga.

I’m going to not watch those in most likelihood.
But I’m not going to tell you what to do. If you liked any of Snyder’s previous films, it’s probably worth giving it a go.
It left me with no desire to watch part two or an r-rated version with more swears.
Its main problems, to me, are two-fold:

The fact that the people at LucasFilm/Disney said, "Yeah, this is too derivative even for us," and turned it down, should have been an indication of what this movie was going to be like.
I actually liked Rebel Moon, generally. I ‘m not anctipating part 2 like I would many of the shows I am following’s next episode.. but It didn’t feel like a complete wste
As I mentioned, there are a number of things that Battle Beyond the Stars did that were just as good if not better than Rebel Moon.
Zack Snyder does visuals well, most of the time. Especially for things where I am not familiar with the IP (for me, it was 300, as well as Rebel Moon), I think it works well. There’s a lot more alienness in many ways (such as the alien who uses a human to communicate, that reminiscent of Independence Day,a s well as Mos Eisley).
As an homage to not just Star Wars, but Battle Beyond the Stars, Independence Day and others (as well as Japanese movies & culture), I can appreciate it.
I also greatly appreciate the transformation of actors I know into different roles: It took me a while to remember Ray Fisher was in this, so his role made him feel very different than Cyborg; I also had no idea it was Corey Stoll with the beard. Speaking of Fisher, I felt he did a great job doing a commander/warrior role here. Though a part of me is joking ly thinking he is telling people that he is the heart of Rebel Moon.
I also appreciate the diversity of actors involved.... casting, for the most part, is something Zack Snyder does very well.
I think though, Snyder has the same problem he had with Superman… making his “Main” character” an all-important savior (MoS = Kal-EL has the DNA of the ENTIRE Kryptonian civilization; his sacrifice in BvS that we all knew wouldn’t last; him being basically the main/only reason Steppenwolf was defeated). Jesus didn’t even flex like that when he was here.
By the way, I am very interested in hearing @TREK_GOD_1 's opinion on this movie. A lot of the hate here, though, will reinforce his characterization of ALL critics of Snyder’s DCFU
Also, the preliminary battle with the Bad Guy… that just seemed kinda ridiciulous in the sense that everyone was tied up, and yet no one was killed? And it felt like an “obligatory” fight that you need at the end EVERY movie.
And the villain resurrection….i suppose it is to make him seem like a big threat. But I rather he would have been replaced (almost feels like Steppenwolf being defeated to that Apocalypse steps in as the “real” big bad for the next movie)
This movie is inspiring me to write one of my own…but one where the characters are more evenly spread out, so it’s not just the ‘savior’s” story, and more of them interact with each other.
p.s. should we have had a grading poll? Interested what people rated it.... for me, it was a solid B

I have serious doubts that a Directors Cut will be able to save these movies but i'm willing to eat my words when it's time. The movie just lacks basic quality both in story and acting, so just more of that will probably not save it if there is nothing to enhance.
There are counterexamples though - the Lord of the Rings trilogy is great, the Extended Versions are amazing. Same for Kingdom of Heaven - the theatrical cut is good but the Directors Cut turns it into an awesome movie.

I watched it last night, and I did enjoy a few parts of it. The Metroid-type alien that seemed to be parasitic and the spider woman were kind of cool. 
That being said, the movie does have plenty of flaws. The character development is pretty weak, which is unfortunate since the cast isn't all that bad. They need better material to work with.
The excessive slo-mo also became (for me) somewhat unintentionally funny, particularly during the final battle, because it killed any of the proper tension those sorts of scenes should have. It's a film technique that, used properly, can be a handy addition (I mainly thought about how it was used much more effectively in some of the famous battles from the first Matrix movie). But one has to know how to effectively use it.
