Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (Zack Snyder, Dec. 22 on Netflix)

I don't get it, why wouldn't Netflix just let Snyder do his own cut in the first place?

So, just finished it.

An entertaining and visually impressive scifi movie, with mediocre acting and dialogue. I'm sick and stuck at home, so I was entertained well enough. But paused it three times to check some stuff on my phone.
I'm interested in Part Two, but not on the edge of my seat or anything.

They always release these movie at awkward times when I'm busy. I'll give it a watch on Christmas Eve. Shame there is no Cinema release.

From what I gathered from the interview Snyder, this is a PG-13 movie, simply because Netflix wanted a version more people could watch. Netflix actually suggested an R-rated cut, this movie's Snyder Cut if you will. Which according to Snyder, will be a almost different movie all together.

So basically it's a reverse of what they did with Deadpool 2? I can kind of see the appeal, because there are apparently still quite a few who don't see R rated movies, so this way both the no R rated crowd, and the R rated crowd get their own version.

Zach is like J.J. Abrams to me.. as in.. Why do people keep on giving this person money to make movies?? There not that good.
Eh, making money is preferable to making good movies from the studio's perspective. Though both options give the studio things they can blurb "Critically acclaimed" and "Box office smash!"

Netflix seemingly has money to burn -- Rebel Moon, Red Notice, The Gray Man, Bright -- 9-figure budgeted movies that will be forgotten a week later.

All anyone needs to do is watch movies pre-77 and post-77 to see the difference Star Wars made. It had its influences, it also influenced others, it's all good.
Same. An enjoyable riff, but one whose biggest contribution was in the advancement of special FX

Riff here, riff there, but I think people often forget how revolutionary the first Star Wars was on a technical level, such as photography, editing, pacing etc. It wasn't only a FX showcase. It's truly a "modern" film.

I enjoyed it, movies are more than a script, as a sci-fi spectacle package I liked it quite a bit. If it's style over substance at least it delivers in spades.

I really like the Anthony Hopkins soldier bot, neat design and his voice is great.

Now I feel I should renew my gym membership...

Nice visuals, but nothing of substance under the hood. Characters are under-cooked, including the protagonist. Dialogue is bad, almost reaching Voyager "Nemesis" levels. I don't see a long-term franchise here. Nice diversion, but nothing more.

Well....... That was something.

I'd hope Akira Kurosawa would've been humored to be ripped off by so many shitty movies.

It's funny because we all know how storyline (and characters) of Star Wars: IV was taken from the Hidden Fortress... but Snyder's original intent was this to be a Jedi version of Seven Samurai and a Star Wars film, but the negotiations broke down at some point and he turned it into an 'original/non SW' setting.

So it would have been another SW film copying Kurosawa.
