I have had numerous same sex friends and I have never felt romantic towards them.
I guess in my limit it's scope of the world, one has a romance with a future or potential sexual partner.
In my limited life experience I would never even remotely feel the desire to be romantic with another woman.

Where I come from it's a derogatory word for camp homosexual men but I can tell that's not what you meant

eta. I see someone else had the same reaction. My guess is you meant something different, but in the context of this thread topic is comes across differently.

Anybody think B'elanna and Chakotay would have made an interesting pairing?

They are both good looking but Chacotay is such a milquetoast. I couldn't see B'elanna finding him attractive/ interesting. Conversely it seems that he would find her too her over the top excitable for him.
I could have seen Chacotay with Kes. Both intelligent but very mild and mello for the most part.
I always miss at least part of every episode but doesn't he get with Seven of Nine later.
To me, that seems like it would be a very boring relationship. Probably just my perspective though.

 

I think there's some storytelling potential there. B'elanna is fiery and conflicted and Chakotay has a zen thing going on. Both are Maquis and I think you could create both a professional and personal triangle with the addition of Janeway into the mix. They also have (platonic) history so it wouldn't feel as out of the blue as his romance with Seven.
