RDM's Battlestar Galactica

The Cylon raiders were sentient. They bore the heaviest loses but had no say in any of military decisions that affected them. It is hardly surprising that they turned to the Cylon religion that taken up by the Centurions and some of the Cylon models that caused the civil war in the later part of the series.

That the One's decided to have the raiders lobotomised probably didn't help things either.

Suddenly I feel so, so old.

Oh, speaking of Battlestar Galactica and the uncomfortably large number of years that it's been part of our lives, I think in an old thread when we still had a BSG subforum you posted an image of what looked like a sister design of the BSG Ring Ship; wider, curvier body, with two or three smaller rings instead of one big one. I'm pretty sure I saw it again in the past couple years on one of those spaceship-reposting accounts on social media, but I've been trying to find it on-line or on my hard drive for the last week and had no luck. I don't remember any kind of context around it, except that I somehow associate it with you. At this point, I am open to the possibility that this never happened and I saw this 3D render or maybe very well-done photobash in a dream. Do you remember what I'm talking about?

It's not ringing any bells, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. Just that my memory is crap.
The words literally came to me while I was brushing my teeth and I ran back to the computer hoping I'd beat you to it: "Star of Picon."

(Oh, Jesus, and I have a copy of the actual model from when I volunteered to do some layout animation for that project. Right under my nose the whole time.)

I misremembered, like, 40% of the actual look, but that's what I was thinking of. Which, on the plus side, means I can develop that idea without so much of a "fan projects ripping off fan projects" aspect.

(Hot goss, the BSG fan-game Diaspora is back in active development, though there hasn't been anything public beyond members of the team mentioning, "Hey, we're working on Diaspora again.")

TBH I'm drawing a blank as to how that ship ended up involved with a BSG fan project – Alek (who I haven't been in touch with for years) and I designed it for a college project around 2006 or so. The 2016 date in that thread postdates the last time Alek and I worked together on anything 3D.

I must have been involved somehow because I don't know how else the Urantia project would have known about that mesh, but man I have zero memory of this.

I miss that old sub forum. Lots of great stuff in there I’d like to revisit if given the opportunity, if even only in read-only mode - just for reference - almost as a time capsule.

I think the admins tried several times to revive it but it never seemed to work. I’m not even sure that section of the database even exists anymore since the big migration to the new BBS format.

That's weird. The Stargate and Lost forums are still there, just hidden, I assumed the BSG one would be, too. I wonder what was different about it.

Don’t know. I was a strong advocate to get it reactivated back in the day. It looked like efforts were made but for some reason it just never worked. I think both T’Bonz and EricF took a stab at it and it never materialized. :(
