Rank the Odds

"The Mountain" and "A Busy Man" frequently feature on my ST soundtrack playback sessions.

Insurrection - Well...it had a cool ship battle and nice music.
Star Trek V - Didn't even have that much
Star Trek V didn't even have nice music? Watch it again.
Prob'ly no point in arguing with that poster who thinks TFF didn't have nice music ... he/she dismisses all of TOS in another thread as a show he didn't like with characters that are 'one dimensional archetypes' in comparison with The Abrams Thing -- whatever the hell that means (d'ye think he meant 'stereotypes?')

1. ST 09 (4/5)
2. TMP (4/5)
3. TSFS (3/5)
4. GEN (3/5)
5. INS (2/5)
6. TFF (2/5)

The whole notion of even-numbered films being better than the odd-numbered films is stupid, and has become a very lazy angle for the critics to lean on when reviewing Trek films.

1. Star Trek
2. Generations
3. Insurrection
4. The Search for Spock
5. The Motion Picture
6. The Final Frontier

1. Generations

6. TMP

Yeah, I have weird taste.

1-2. XI and TMP -- one was much more fun than deep, the other much more deep than fun. Ask me another day and they'll switch places, I guarantee
3. TSFS
4. Generations
5. TFF
6. INS

1. TSFS
2. TMP
3. TFF (Just rewatched it and kinda liked the big three camaraderie)
4. GEN
5. XI

(I have only seen INS once and don't remember enough to rank it)

TMP
TSFS
TFF
NuTREK
GEN
INS

NUTrek is only so low, as I'd take anything with the original cast first. It's a better film than TFF, but it don't have Shatner.

The movies I like from best to the least are:

1.Star Trek XI: Its my very favorite movie. I just everything about this movie from the charcters to even the timeline change. I also love the new look of the Enterprise, its just a beauty. I love many of the scenes in the movie espically the scenes between Kirk & Spock. At first they are rivals and disagree with each other alot and have issues as well. But as things start to change espically by the end of the movie, they begain to change from rivals to a begaings of a trust and friendship. I also like the scenes between Kirk and McCoy, which you see a great friendship growing. I also like the scenes where all three toghther, as well I like the scenes between Kirk and Spock Prime and Spock and Spock Prime.

2.The Search For Spock: I love this movie because its all about friendship and what you would do for that friend if they were in trouble or sick. I thought what Kirk did was a brave and wise thing to do. It was more important to help save his friends Spock and McCoy, than just to fallow regulations, even if it cost him at a price. Because sometimes "The needs of the one, outweight the needs of the many".

3.The Final Frontier: I think this another great movie because it shows what great friendship that Kirk,Spock and McCoy have. It really shows how powerful a trust in each other great everlasting frienship can be, thier relationship is just like between brothers.I also like scenes where they are in the park and just having fun and enjoying spending time with each other.

4.Genarations: I love this movie its actually my very favorite TNG movie. I think the movie is just very exciting and all around fun. I also enjoy seeing Data with emotions which he has never ever got the chance to experance.I think its great to see both two amazing lengendary Captains. Both Kirk and Picard two best captains of thier time, working toghter to save the lives of many from a mad man, and doing what they do best. I think is great to see two centries come toghter at the same time
which you will not always see.

5.Inserection: I think its good movie not my favorite but still pretty good. I like many of the scenes in the movie, but there is not alot I can say about it.

6.The Motion Picture: This is my very least favorite of all the odd movies, but also my very least favorite of all 11 movies. To me there are parts of the movie that just seems to me that don't feel like I'm watching Star Trek at all. All the other movies you know you are watching Star Trek, but not this one. This one they seem to try to hard to get away from Star Trek, and it didn't work. I also thought the uniforms looked very stange, it just didn't look right on the charcters.

Star Trek '09
The Search for Spock
Generations
Insurrection
The Final Frontier
The Motion Picture
Star Trek '09

That's not a typo. It's hard to explain, but that's how I feel about the new movie.

1) STTMP- Epic SF
2) Star Trek '09-Fun SF
3) Insurrection-Character driven SF
4) TSFS- Emotional SF
5) TFF- Budget SF
6) Generations- Questionable SF:guffaw:

1. The Motion Picture - it's my favourite movie. To HELL with the odds suck rule.

2. Star Trek XI - solid character piece. Weak plot.

3. Insurrection - I like it. It's pleasant.

4. Generations - Every scene is disappointing, but it's somehow watchable. And I love the scenes in the Nexus. *shrugs*

5. The Search for Spock - aside from stealing the enterprise, this movie is a waste of time. Destroying the Enterprise hurts. But it's a solid movie otherwise.

6. The Final Frontier - I feel bad putting this at the bottom as this movie has something I appreciate more than anything that all the other movies don't have (except TMP): ambition.

Woot, we think almost alike.

TMP: My all time favorites of the Trek movies. The most 'Trek-ish' of all of them. Nice to see one without Klingons, Romulans, and so on causing havoc....or politics, either. And I like the idea the of living machines, loved the music. Also, this is the most "un-millitary" incarnation I have seen.

ST: It had good points, but just feels so more like an alternative universe than just an alternate timeline. Plus the engineering section needs work....ALOT. And making it gritty & 'realistic' is not always a good thing, especially when putting 21st century elements in a story that happens 200+ years later. And the Enterprise does not look too bad...apart from the brightly lit bridge and the aforemention "AXIS Chemicals" engineering.

ST5: ~Dodes another wine bottle being thrown~ Yes, the visuals with below par, even for a late 1980's film...and yes the 1980's had bad visuals in most films and TV; but this film felt alot like a TOS story, just set 20 years later. A DE version, just like for TMP got, would fix the visuals problem if need be. Also, I loved the musicin this one. Plus I was with Sulu and Chekov when checking out the Klingon chick..."She has wonderful muscles!". :bolian:

Insurrection: It was not a bad story at all. I liked seeing Picard and the others standing up for what's right and telling the greedy federation and Joan Rivers rejects what they can go do with themselves. It seems that The Ashes of Eden was what inspired this one a bit. Plus I liked that woman in the film, Picard being into an older woman rocked. :bolian:

Generations: A good idea, mostly, but bad execution. I liked the idea of Kirk and Picard meeting...but not killing, aparantly, off Kirk so quickly, bit then pulling off a G1 Optimus Prime and bringing him back, just to die for real. Plus destroying the Enterprise-D, just cause, according to Bermen and Braga, it did not look "kewl" enough on big screen.....skrew yourselves with a phillips, B&B....you two are primarily for the downward spiral Trek would later go into, and this was the catalyst. Plus the villian was not interesting...the most he could be is a baddie for an episode of TNG. This is also the final appearence of the annoying "Cleavege Sisters".

ST3: The bottom ranked Trek film, in my opinion. It's pretty much a precurser to Generations, but worse, I feel. The whole thing was anti-climactic, since Spock was brought back, in a somewhat confusing way. We learn that Starfleet personal, at least in space dock, are a bunch of pompus smegheads ready to toss Kirk and crew to pasture, and they can't add right. Enterprise was 40 years old, not 20, you gimp. And destroying the Enterprise.....what was the point, especially what happens in ST4, since they do the same to the Enterprise as they do to Spock. Only real good of this one was the intoduction of Oberth, Excelior and Bird of Prey classes.

I'd struggle to think of any film score I prefer to Goldsmith's TFF score, not just out of Trek films.

Hm. Better than I recall, yes. But I do think I prefer the TNG movie scores to anything from the TOS films, particularly the last 3.
Goldsmith as well, of course. I'd agree that the TNG films are all great music wise too (including Generations). TFF has a lot in common with the FC score too. But I choose it as my favourite because it has The Mountain theme (which also plays a lovely rendition during the reception scene near the end), the A Busy Man theme (which is just beautiful and perfectly compliments what could have been a much lesser scene under any other composer), and the dynamic Klingon theme reworked from TMP.

Here's another cool link, someone's attempt at remastered titles, with a great mix of The Mountain, A Busy Man, and the Courage fanfare from INS:

But if there's one thing the Trek films have going for them, they pretty much all have fantastic scores (except IV, I would argue).

If only SOMEONE else had done the music...:scream: The best music in the movie was the song the punk was playing on the bus.:vulcan:
