Rangers of the New Republic

I liked Mayfeld - he’s a great diamond-in-the-rough character, and one I’d hope to see more of, in SW media.

Mayfield IMO is someone who works well in a team as well. In fact I was kind of hoping the Rangers show would have been Dunne, Mayfield, Cobb Vanth, a brand new character. Hopefully a female person of color that kicks ass and maybe is force sensitive with Greef Karga as the kind of old team leader.

Even with a different show where he is the lead you still can give him a team around him.

Mayfeld still annoys. Less seen of him the better. Actually smiled when Mando left him in the Republic prison.

Why not? We have had tv shows build around darker people than him before. Mando was a bounty hunter. I guess Anakin in the Clone Wars you could also say since he grew up to be Vadar. Star Wars does have a Western feel that runs through much of it. Life is sometimes cheap in SW which is one of the themes that separates it from Trek.
Who said anything about him being "too dark"?
He's just not an interesting enough character to build a show around. Good for the odd guest appearance as part of an ensemble, but that's about it.

Also as has been repeatedly stated: why would an ex-con who's continued freedom depends on the New Republic continuing to think he's dead get within a thousand parsecs of "The Rangers of the New Republic"?

Really now, if one must go mining existing characters rather that inventing all new ones, there are MUCH better options. Like say, Iden Versio to name but one.

Exactly. Whether I like the character or not he lacks enough depth to have him carry a show. That's not interesting or engaging enough when there is a huge cast of characters to draw upon in this time period.

Yeah, I just don't see him being able to carry a show.

Yes, Janina Gavankar was awesome in Battlefront II, and I would love to see her in live action, and it would be even better if they brought TJ Ramini and Paul Blackthorne as Meeko and Hask back too.

Mayfeld was grating in his first episode, but he was excellent in his return. I definitely agree he's not lead character material, though. And I also agree with everyone suggesting Iden Versio to take Cara Dune's place in Rangers. Make it happen, Lucasfilm!

I felt the same way about him in the first episode. But after rewatch, not so much because I understood him better. But yes still thought he was an ass for how he acted after discovering Grogu.

I don't know why they just can't just recast Dune.

I mean, it's not like Carano can melt dialogue or anything.

Because Carano was great in the role. She looks like someone who can kick your ass because in real life she can literally kick people's ass. She is not a great actor by any means but was perfect for that role. Plus the pressure you would put on a new actor who be to much. The entire show would be about Carano and all that drama again. If you don't have Carano it's better to just move onto a new character.

Also, Cara Dune as a character is not a vital component of the show. So far she's been a recurring guest character with about two or three appearances per season. That's a character that's not worth the hassle of recasting when just creating a new character or transplanting an existing one to fill the role is so much easier.

You almost got to go in the opposite in terms of new character as well. You can't just bring in Ronda Rousey and say this new character was a foot solider and is named Catanna Stargo or something. You need to go something like Hayley Atwell who uses a small like tank vehicle in combat situations. Also can't fight hand to hand so she has a personal shield if she doesn't have access to her tanks. Plus she is rich so is a cross between Iron Man and Princess Leia.

Don't ask me why, but for some reason when I saw Carano I originally read it as Carla Gugino, and now I really want to see her on one of the D+ Star Wars shows.

Would think they would do a take off of one of any number of Westerns about rangers or other law enforcement types and shift it to them having access to either some sort of police cutter or X-wings for their patrols away from their home planet.

Gugino is to old I think to be doing action stuff. I say we see her as the new leader of Cloud City. Maybe she use to be pilot and she and Mando get into a airplane fight in one of those spaceships with two pilot seats on both sides.

She's 50, and she looks like she's still in pretty good shape, so she's probably more than capable of shooting a blaster at people.

I was really looking forward to this show. Shame it seems to be DOA. Fingers crossed it can find it's wings again eventually.

Was hoping for much more Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant), the 2 X-wing fighter guys from Mando 2.2 and "dreamcasting" Frankie Adams (of the Expanse) as new Cara Dune or new character.
