Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

After the jury pool was exhausted, the judge ordered deputies to grab random people inside or near the courthouse for jury duty, which apparently is acceptable under Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure Article 785, Paragraph D. They were not asking for volunteers, which led to a lot of angry people. Enough of them were rejected that the trial was postponed.

I seem to recall that's an option in Canadian law as well. Still, the authorities know that invoking it is asking for trouble to some degree.

The things you learn!

I had never hear of the "Tales Law", so I went on to the InterWeb, and, poof!
Nearly 40 States have versions of the Tales Juror Selection law...

But, I am with @Fantasy Lover...my Inquiring Mind wants to know!

Back to the Net!

I went to our local used book store and bought 2 books. When I got home, I opened one of the books and found that it was signed by the author. I don't think I have ever read books by her before. The funny thing was that it was addressed to someone who has the same first name that I do. It felt strange to see that.
