OMG very similar to what we used to have in our police.Interesting. Haven't seen one like that in the Houston area. But then, I'm not generally around places that require their presence.

After the jury pool was exhausted, the judge ordered deputies to grab random people inside or near the courthouse for jury duty, which apparently is acceptable under Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure Article 785, Paragraph D. They were not asking for volunteers, which led to a lot of angry people. Enough of them were rejected that the trial was postponed.

Interesting article and answer(?) to the question of why the jury pool was exhausted, re: the article @Aragorn posted and @Fantasy Lover raised a question about...
Depending on the case and media coverage both attorneys could dismiss potential jurors for cause and eventually enough get dismissed.
