Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

I see several places still with barriers up between staff and customers. I see some people with masks, employees and not. I can understand most of it, save for the person with a mask on walking down the sidewalk not near anyone. That confuses me.
I've seen people with masks on driving all alone in a car, that's the one that really gets me.
And really at this point I don't understand why anybody is still wearing masks, the majority of people are vaccinated or have gotten it, and it's never going away, so you unless you plan wearing them the rest of your life, you might as well stop.

Well that's more then possible, a lot of alien species might have voted that way
Oh I know, but I guess I think E.T. in his/her/their own film feels like some pretty switched on dude and them voting for imperialism just seems wrong. To me it's like Optimus Prime or Superman or Jesus voting for imperialism.

Yes but the ET in the senate chamber might not even be the ET of the movie but from another group of them voting on their behalf.

Movie ET might be a rebel

Slug what now? Have you met humans? We are not monolithic

Also, long time ago, far far away. So probably not the same ETs.

Sometimes it’s easier to just leave them on between destinations than it is to keep taking them on and off, and risking possible contamination by handling them. Since it doesn’t bother me at all wearing them, I often do this… leave the house without one, put it on at the first stop, then leave it on for all subsequent travel and stops until I get home and can dispose safely.

And really, if it has absolutely no impact on you whatsoever, not sure why it bothers you?

But you don’t know the circumstances of other people’s lives. They could have auto-immune disorders, or other underlying conditions that make getting COVID more dangerous, or they could have family members with such conditions. Or maybe they’ve weighed the risk of getting long COVID and the resulting impact on their lives, and decided the risk isn’t worth it? The vaccines, while greatly lowering the risk of hospitalization and death, are still not a guarantee you won’t get sick. They’re not perfect.

I’m not sure this thought even bothers me. I’ve already pretty much resigned myself to never eating in a restaurant or seeing a movie in a theatre again. TBH, I’ve been remarkably illness-free from any illness since masking has become a thing*, so it seems like a minuscule price to pay.

* Admittedly, WFH has been a major factor in this too. Offices seem to be just as much a germ factory as schools are…

And why is AARP trying to get young people to join? Everybody knows what the R stands for!

They've been trying to get me to join since I turned 30 over a decade ago. I don't know what this conspiracy theory is about.

Now, P+ has a lot of old leads. I know that CBS aims for a much older demographic, but P+ takes it to a new level.

Does anyone use Amazon Music for the basic package that comes with being a Prime member? Seems like there are less and less options and song choices for this free package. Like skipping ahead to the next song is disabled depending on the playlist or choosing which song to play is disabled depending on the album. Some playlists I used to listen to are restricted now. It plays one song and then stops.
Yes! But then I checked it out on my computer, and then the next time I opened the app on my phone it seemingly returned back to the way it used to be.

Anyone read "Children of Time"? Fantastic "hard" sci fi book, but also I found it to be quite a page turner. I didn't want to set it down. I'm a hundred pages in now on the second book, "Children of Ruin".

Devastator from Transformers is 16 metres tall, Voltron is 100 metres tall, and Metroplex from Transformers is at least 200 metres tall. So there goes my idea of a Kaiju battle.

ET and the people on his ship were probably scientists, compared to the ones in The Senate, who were probably politicians, and there tends to be a big difference between scientists and politicians when it comes to this kind of thing.
Wait, I just realized, does this mean that ET takes place in the Star Wars universe? Are there other SW races visiting Earth? Maybe all of the Big Foot sighting are actually just Wookiees visiting Earth for some reason. It could explain why they're so hard to find, because they don't actually live on Earth, they're just visiting.

It just seems strange to me, that's all.

I guess that makes sense.

I've gotten 3 or 4 shots, and I got COVID itself, so at this point I'm just back to life as usual.
And like I said, I absolutely can't stand wearing them, so the moment I didn't have to, I stopped wearing them, other than when I was recovering from COVID. When I was wearing them, I would yank it off so fast when I got home that I actually hurt my ears a few times.

Yeah, this is pretty true.

I like this point!

There's a Star Wars Elseworlds-type comic where Han and Chewie crash on Earth. Han dies and his body is found by Indiana Jones and Short Round. Chewie becomes Big Foot!
And then there's Alien Exodus which explicitly linked Star Wars with Earth but it got canned.

we got all kind of interesting and creative names for gatherings of different animals, like
a bloat of hippoes
a tower of giraffes
a murder of crows
a dazzle of zebras
a kaleidoscope of butterflies
etc etc...
but what are the words for large gatherings of alien species?

a _____of Klingons
a _____of Andorians
a _____of Trills
a _____of Betazoids
a _____of Vulcans
a _____of Orions
a _____of Changelings
a _____of Xindis
a _____of Cardassians
a _____of Tribbles

a fury of Klingons might be precise?
a chlorophyll of Orions?
idk... is something like this ever established? What do you call a group of Tribbles?

...that's my random thought for today
