Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

I don't watch the news on TV, and instead get all my news online. Which means that many times I'll see a name, and not know for sure how it is pronounced. After reading the name "Buttigieg" for months now, an article I read today finally--FINALLY--made a point of mentioning the pronunciation.

Apparently, it's "boot-edge-edge". That is pretty much not even close to any of the possibilities that I considered as likely.

Bood eh jege

So I heard an ad on the radio this morning for a local Honda dealership. The tagline at the end of the ad, and I kid you not, was:

<xxx> Honda: We not only sell Hondas, we're also a great place to buy one!

:wtf:

Since when are ads supposed to make sense?

Earlier, I learned that the house next door is up for sale. The old guy's physical health had probably nose dived because of all of the BS from the noisy neighbour who left in May last year. Or, it played a significant part. I mean, he could barely walk around and eventually needed a carer. Although, he sympathised with that noisy idiot for a long time and it didn't do anyone any good in the long run.

It's funny that my recent doctor appointment (related to how the noise impacted me) and the for sale sign happened in the same week. The universe has a weird way of closing one chapter and opening another.

if a solarstorm wiped out the all electricity in my town, (or the whole planet)
i actually think most people would turn into animals just within a few days...
it will be dark, it will be cold, most people dont have a fireplace so no cooking,
you could not communicate via phone or pc, you could not use your money because money are just datafiles on some server that noone can access... how long before falling into a madmax society?....

Until I was twelve, my parents had no TV set, no Telephone. I didn't have a personal bedroom until I could pay for one with my own money which didn't happen until my mid-twenties (I went to college). No shelves to put stuff on, no posters on the walls. I still keep my bedroom picture free. I hate to wake up to anything but a bare wall. No warm water coming out of a water tap until my early teens, no in-house toilets. The outhouse was at the end of the garden (to protect us from the smell) and that means that you had to cross that garden in the middle of winter, in the cold and dark, with only a torchlight to lit your way that you hanged from a hook while you were doing your business. Cut newspapers as bathroom fare, the ink stained our skin... If you wanted hot water you had to heat it up on the stove. My parents provided the essential and if I wanted anything more I had to work for it. No one ever forced me to work (this is France, not a third world country but I figured out by myself that that is what I had to do and I got pretty good at it. Practice makes perfect). Plus I had first-rate education, even though it was free and since I worked hard and got straight A's (the French equivalent) all the time, I had no problem getting grants to continue my education.

Still, I consider my childhood as a very happy one. I had everything I needed. Woods all around to play in, friends, all sorts of sportive activities. I managed to be both an A-student and good at making friends (and girlfriends). I learned Karate (I paid for the lessons with my own money until my father realized how serious I was about it and started paying for them himself. He had paid off his debt to the bank and got a promotion at work and could afford to pay for things that weren't absolutely essential). I keep myself in good shape, I eat healthily... all in all my life seems ideal to me.

I ham happy as a lark.:)
