Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

We've known about coronaviruses for a while now... roughly half a century. I'm no expert, but from what I've read, my understanding is that coronaviruses and rhinoviruses are the major viruses behind the common cold. So just calling it "the" coronavirus is misleading... but that's pretty much what most major news sites are doing, even though it now has an official name.

As to the name "coronavirus" itself, according to Wikipedia:

Wikipedia said:
The name coronavirus is derived from the Latin corona, meaning "crown" or "halo", which refers to the characteristic appearance of the virus particles (virions): they have a fringe reminiscent of a crown or of a solar corona.

if a solarstorm wiped out the all electricity in my town, (or the whole planet)
i actually think most people would turn into animals just within a few days...
it will be dark, it will be cold, most people dont have a fireplace so no cooking,
you could not communicate via phone or pc, you could not use your money because money are just datafiles on some server that noone can access... how long before falling into a madmax society?....

Lots of people have gas cooking. Or can, you know, just go outside with a match and lighter fluid.

Yeah, lack of access to money would cause problems. But I think there’d be a martial law declaration to curb the short term chaos, communities would band together for security and we’d settle into a new normal in a decade or so.

It’d just be a huge culture shock because we’d all have to rediscover how to be part of a local community.

You make it sound like it wouldn't really be all that bad.

Oh... nevermind.

After I finished watching the latest episode of Picard, I went searching for reviews. The first one I found on YouTube was a total WTF moment for me. Guy was a total misogynist and upon further research, racist too. It also wasn't even a review -- he just rehashes the entire plot, then throws in his "strong woman bad, weak man bad" routine. I let it play for too long since I was doing other stuff at the time, but eventually I had to shut it off. How does something like Star Trek of all things get co-opted by these kind of people?

Oh... nevermind.

He/she must be saving lots of cheese n' crackers...for the end of days.

"The difference between genius and stupidity, is that genius has its limits."-- Einstein, (possible quote not verified, but its Great on my t-shirts) :D

Of course it would be terrible, it just wouldn’t be Mad Max style anarchy.

The original poster I was responded to suggested that the moment anyone was forced out of their comfort zone they’d immediately start pillaging. When people are thrown into chaos and uncertainty their first instinct isn’t to lash out desperately, it’s to fall in line to the nearest strong authority figure. Which would be law enforcement and the military.

There would be poverty and suffering, and probably authoritarianism, but there would not be a total collapse of order.

And even then, I don't like cheese that's too strong

My youngest daughter is getting interviews for overseas internships this summer. While I wish her well, I also cant help but worry. I really only get to see her in summer too, it will be rough.

It is hard to cut the ties and let them go, but it has to eventually come as do all things, whether we wish it or not.

Summer will be here before ya' know it. And Hope springs eternal. :)

i had it like that when one of my sons litarally went to the other side of the world to study... that was rough, but it introduced me to something called "skype", and besides, like Worf factor9 said, Summer will be here before ya' know it.
