Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

We’ve not had the official word yet, but the Boris advice tonight is no unnecessary contact. Basically, stay home if you can.

Less than a quarter of our bunch have come in this week. At least some of those it's because they either can't work from home, or they need IT support before they can. If it turns out to be longterm though, some of the stuff we need won't come via email/dropbox etc so we're looking at work arounds for that.

I recently learned an important life lesson that I wish to share with everyone.

When a loved one tells you ‘For god’s sake get an eye test’ don’t leave it ten years, and in that time wonder why the joy of reading since evades you.

Just do it. Take the test, get corrections, see again.

for my mom, make it a hearing aid

I read a statistic yesterday. It's actually disgusting, so I wasn't going to share it, but then I figured I couldn't reference it without sharing what it was, so I will put it in spoiler code. Just remember, it is disgusting, and you will regret reading it.

Only 19% of people wash their hands with soap after coming in contact with feces.

Not even kidding. This is the article that mentioned it:

On one hand, I wish I didn't know that. On the other hand, now I know that even after COVID-19 is no longer the fear du jour, I still shouldn't shake anyone's hand, ever.

well, what's new about this? being a male who actually uses public toilets probably helps to understand that. i have no reason to believe that women are any better :(

I can't say that I recall ever (in recent memory, anyway) seeing someone not wash their hands in the ladies' room.

A couple of caveats: 1) due to my social anxiety issues, I am probably not out in public spaces as often as others, and 2) the few times I've been in really crowded venues, I've been more worried about self-calming to try to prevent anxiety attacks, rather than monitoring other people's hand washing.

I've seen it happen. When I worked in the call center, I'd see some older ladies not wash their hands ... they were also mostly technophobes and whined about everything. I spoke up to someone one time, and she said she didn't have enough time because she was going to be out of compliance ... :wtf:

About a month ago, I met a friend at this diner for dinner and coffee/tea. On the way out I stepped into the bathroom, and there was urine all over the seat in the open stall. I had to clean it up, but I was also thinking "Wtf?" Like, i can understand men peeing all over the place, but how does a woman get it all over the seat like that???

it takes practice and dedication

Really trivial stuff, but... I'm bored out of my mind, and a bit anxious, but most of all bored. In a couple of days, I'll run out of toilet paper I can only hope that by then there will be any to buy!

To take my mind off corona, I decided to order one of the few trek books I'm interested in... only to discover it's out of print and sold at ridiculous prices. Nothing on the grand scale of thins, of course, but I really need something other than TV...

Your grandparents were called to war. You’re being called to sit on your couch. You can do this. #QuarantineLife

I highly recommend installing a bidet in your house. Your toilet paper needs will be seriously diminished, and a few rolls can last you for months. You can get them as low as like $20 on Amazon.

Your bathroom size shouldn't matter. You can get one that attaches to your toilet, basically you put it on under the seat and hook up the water. You can install it in like 10 minutes, and it will vastly improve your quality of life :)

It is the kind things my friends and family are doing for me that is getting me through this virus experience. Like today my best friend couldn't come and celebrate my birthday with me so she sent me flowers and a balloon! I have had more birthday wishes than ever and people (friends and family) I don't always hear from are getting in contact more because everyone wants to know their loved ones are okay. Everyone has been so sweet. I will never forget this birthday. Even though I can't go out or to a movie or anything like that. It is okay. I know people care and would be with me if they could. That means the world to me. I will get through all of this as long as the kind and sweet things keep coming. You know?!

does picard say "nr1" or "engage" the most during the tng era?
it's probably possible to find that out by searching for words in transcripts, but that seems like a lot of work....
edit: .. what
I'd almost guarantee he's said "#1" way more than "Engage". One is an order gives only to embark. The other is a person who is literally his right hand man that he speaks to constantly

^ Yeah i found a script search... and you are right:

Star Trek Script Search - All series and movies :
Picard says: Engage: 79 results
Picard says: Number One: 463 results
:)
Edit: He also says "feet" 3 times and "stars" 13 times
