Random DS9 questions

Did anyone draw the connection themselves that the Tosk and Jem'Hadar have the same cloaking device? I never did.

The plan was indeed to have the Hunters be members of the Dominion.

Each race in the Dominion has a specific function; the Hunters were supposed to be their navigators/trackers. In "Broken Link", for example, the Jem'Hadar that takes the Defiant's helm was originally going to be a Hunter, but they decided not to go that route.

As for the Tosk: They were created from the same 'original' race as the Jem'Hadar. The Tosk were then given to the Hunters as a gift (and to hone their tracking skills).

Why does everyone call the ships Jem'Hadar Fighters and Jem'Hadar Battleships when (a) they're often or always captained by a Vorta, (b) they're likely not built by the Jem'Hadar, but rather by some other client race of the Dominion we haven't seen that are very good at starship construction.

Surely they are Dominion Fighters, and Dominion Battleships...

Because the Jem'Hadar, like the ships they crew, are essentially the Dominion's fists. The people on the Worlds they've conquered don't live in fear of the Vorta, after all.

If it was Vorta who introduced the Quickening, maybe the inhabitants are wise to fear them more than the Jem Hadar. The Jem Hadar only kill the current generation, the Vorta give a horrible death to all future generations until Dr. Bashir helps out.

I would think that they fear the Founders. They may not know who they are or what species, but they know that the Vorta (more slimy than scary) are their mouthpieces. And the Jem'Hadar enforce their will through death and destruction.

What happened to the model of the original Enterprise that was built for "Trials and Tribble-ations"?

Does anyone remember the episode where Odo meets another shapeshifter who had been sent out on his own? I can’t remember the name of that episode. The guy could turn into fog. Anyway, what do you think happened to him? Did he get sick like the founders? I think Odo had already been infected.

That’s it. Chimera. I wonder what could have happened to him. We’ll only know if he’s written into any future Trek.

Yes. He was way advanced beyond Odo’s skills. He could become fire. Timing wise, I’m thinking that his episode occurred after Odo was supposed to have been affected with the virus. If that were so, he’d have died alone. I’m just not certain of the timing. Sad, but he was a bit of a jurk.

That's probably more likely but thinking in terms of if they had done a hypothetical Season 8 I feel they would probably have brought him back. Maybe Starfleet finds a dying Laas on some planet and then it's a race against time to get him off the planet and back to DS9 while other factions try to claim him. The end point for his character would be returning to the Great Link but I wonder if there's any worth in having the character staying on DS9 for a bit and having his views changed on solids. (Although he did murder a guy but let's say he gets off on self-defense:shrug:)
One of the reasons I like the idea of him returning is purely that in a hypothetical Season 8 they've sent Martok to Qon'os and J.G. Hertzler still needs a paycheck.

Did anyone take more photos of all the kitbashed models built for ‘A Time to Stand’ that were ultimately not used? There were far more built than the nine or ten models we already know about.

Unless the Founders (or Odo) managed to make contact with Laas again. Maybe he'd try to contact Odo once he started getting sick. Maybe some solids from Bajor and the Federation would bust their butts to get Laas saved before he died and it would help Laas get over some of his prejudice against solids. Of course once he found out the solids created the disease on purpose that progress would be lost pretty quickly.

It's interesting that we never see the Founders accomplish such feats (that I can recall, at least). We only see them being better than Odo in shapeshifting (replacing other characters), but not the kind of things Laas showed (I suspect they were capable of it, but simply saw no need to).

Could the Founders have shapeshifted into stuff like probes or other seemingly benign space stuff, fly up to starships and then attach a bunch of explosives to the hull?
Or turned into deadly gases in "The Adversary" and everyone just chokes to death?
Or get a bunch of Changelings to just turn into the Defiant to...okay that's as far as I got.

Maybe it's easier to change into someone's double than to try to become your own person, especially if you have time to study them/adapt using their DNA.

The changeling who took on Human form on PIC took that of "Eli Foster", a transporter tech, which makes sense if it beamed over and real Foster was the first crew member encountered, on solo duty.
