Quark: DS9's Raisonneur?

Actually Quark did express an opinion that humans had done things in the past far worse than the Ferengi Alliance had.

Exactly, he makes it sound like the Ferengi never engaged in major wars or slavery or stuff. Hypocritical nonsense.
He wasn't as bad as Spock, though.

Perhaps the Ferengi view human deeds as worse for the reasons they were carried out more than the deeds themselves. No matter what arse modern pyschologists will spout, mankinds primary driver is idealism. All wars were, when you come down to it, driven by one ideal against another, slavery by the idea that one race was better or more deserving than another. All Ferengi acts can come down to Profit. To the Ferengi, a nice, clean reason, any other (good or bad) would be suspect.

As for Spocks occassional one-theme comments, perhaps the problem is his own divided personality, Vulcan and human thought processes warring for possession, and he voices them as a vocal arguement to enforce his chosen vulcan mindset over the human emotional clamour that must surely rise in him like a surf washing against the tide-wall of his vulcan defences, and flickering like a vast buzzing swarm of fireflies through the chinks of momentary doubt in his armour of self control.

Wah, I'm on good form tonite - time to get back to that novel...

Again, hypocrisy doesn't negate accuracy.

I could punch someone in the face and then immediately turn around and tell a bunch of news cameras that "violence is wrong." Just because I said it doesn't make what I said any less true.
