Q about Torchwood season 2 DVD set

Hey all

Just purchased the 3-season DVD box set of Torchwood that's on special offer right now because of Miracle Day. It includes all of season 1, season 2 and CoE.

My question is just about the DVD extras - I'd got used to having commentaries on every single episode. That's been the case on Torchwood season 1 and most of Doctor Who ever since 2005.

But having just opened season 2, there appears to be no commentaries at all. There's the Declassified etc, but no commentaries. I just want to make sure with the guys here that a) I'm not hugely stupid and just can't find them, and b) that I didn't get a somehow lesser set by getting the discount boxset.

Is this how this is supposed to be? Did they just not bother doing commentaries for season 2? Cuz that's kind of disappointing - I was looking forward to them.

Thanks for your help.

No, there are no commentaries on season 2 - just outtakes, Declassified, and a featurette about Jack.

Look on the bright side- you haven't got some inferior version of the set, it was always like that. imagine how worse you'd feel if the standalone season 2 set was stuffed full of interviews and commentaries!

Exactly. Indeed, some studios are still releasing Blu-rays that have been stripped of most or all of the extra features from earlier DVD releases. I passed on buying the remake of Dawn of the Dead and the first Underworld on Blu-ray because of this.

Also, as I recall the 2005 season of Doctor Who didn't have much by way of commentaries, either. It takes some effort to record commentaries, and if the people aren't available, and the budget isn't there to pay the people (you think they do them for free?) then they get skipped. In return, I understand the Declassifieds in Series 2 are full-length (not "Cutdown" like Doctor Who Confidential) and we get a couple cool things like the blooper reel and isn't the Series 2 box the one that has the tribute to the SUV?

^There were commentaries on all the Who dvds from the RTD-era Series 1-4. It was only from the specials on that the number of commentaries dropped.

Sure on Season 2-4 there was also a weekly podcast commentary so there were two commentaries in that period. The first podcast was the first Christmas Special but it was reused on the DVD Series 2 boxset. At least that was the case on this side of the Atlantic. :)

Yeah, I know, you can't exactly "expect" commentaries, they're a bonus. It was just that DW/TW was the only TV show I had on DVD that had a commentary for literally every episode, so I guess the bar was set high and I was spoiled.

I think it was a cost thing - the same reason there are no commentaries for any of The Sarah Jane Adventures.
