Not played Killzone and Motorstorm is racing so UGH
but the HD remakes in the pipeline sound great including the MGS 1-3 HD remake.Uncharted, Last Guardian, Heavy Rain to name a few are + points of Sony.
Hey Jax, you and I seem to have a similar taste in games, and I think we recently started with the PS3 around the same time, and I'm also playing through Uncharted 2. Just got the Tomb Raider Trilogy recently too.
Uncharted 2 is nothing short of brilliance, I cannot wait for Uncharted 3. Not a big fan of Tomb Raider though the original game + Anniversary are solid games. I do plan to get the Lara Croft: Guardian of Light game soon for co-op
Ugh. I give up. It's obvious I can't prove my own personal experiences in anything other than words. Not talking shit. Sony apologists rejoice.
I know you've had bad experience with Blu Ray but I've been impressed with the PS3 overall. I haven't had any problems with mine, it's upgraded itself into a 3D player, I can put DIVX videos I've downloaded onto a USB memory stick and play them on my TV, the online is free, and so on. Instead of proprietary gear I can use bluetooth, built-in WIFI, the charging cables are regular USB cables, the hard drive can be replaced with any laptop hard drive. There are a lot of consumer friendly design choices.
Well it's perfectly okay that you don't like Sony. If you've had a bad experience with their products, then obviously you're going to not like them. Totally understandable. But what I don't get is your comments about being happy that other people could be mad at Sony too. I'm still trying to understand how that improves your life, or improves the bad experience you had with Sony.
Or conversely, when I say I've had nothing but a good experience with my PS3 (until this hack) and blu-ray players, I'm not understanding how that harms you. And the manner in which you post seems to imply that it does. Or at least if I (or any of the other PS3 owners here) would suddenly denouce Sony, that would somehow enrich your life.
And that I simply don't get.

When anyone engages in debate the ultimate goal is to put forward one's opinion, presented with facts to support that opinion, in an effort to get others to understand that point of view and affect positive change.
Large companies like Sony (and yes, Microsoft, Apple and Google can now be added to this list) get arrogant when they grow to their current size. Arrogance breeds laziness and complacency. The result is always damaging to the consumer base who puts money in their pockets. When they screw up in a monumental fashion, generally their arrogance forces them into a mindset of "well, we're big enough and have enough money - nobody's going to fight us, so we don't really have to do anything other than some token P.R. Mia Culpa". Hell, how many thousands of discussions have been on this board about the same arrogance Paramount has shown to the fans of Star Trek, resulting in the driving of the franchise into the dust? I tire of that arrogance and I tire even more of the sheep who make excuses for it. While my goal was, in essence, nothing more than to wake people up, I admit that its delivery could have been less heavy-handed, which only grew out of sheer astonishment of those who simply cannot see what's going on with the bigger picture. Although, I have to wonder if those people who are such vocal Sony advocates here would be quite so vocal if they recently discovered that it was their personal information and credit card numbers that were used against their will. That's another common thing I see with people. "If it doesn't happen to me, it's irrelevant", or "it can never happen to X, Y or Z". Personal privacy and freedom is far too important to allow these companies to view it as a side issue. In fact, it is at the CORE of the issue here. Nobody really knows yet what damage has been fully done by this problem and Sony's chief executives have yet to even make an attempt to put their customer's minds at ease. At least, not that I'm aware - they may have said something about this today, but as of yesterday, they haven't and it's been too long. Again, arrogance. Their customers are clearly not a top priority for them right now and it shows. Let the geeks work out the technical details. It's the executives' jobs to make consistent statements and updates about their progress.
I am a firm believer in karmic justice. Too many bad people get away with too many bad things. In light of the vitriolic ire that I've stirred up by comparing (monetarily) this with BP, we again yet have another example of a rather large company thinking they won't be held accountable for their actions, or inaction, as the case may be. Every rare once-in-a-while, justice is served by random fate, and I revel in it. Nothing personal, but it's always good to see the egotistical elite taken down a notch or two. And I know there are others out there quietly nodding their heads. All it takes is a bold few to speak up and make the point. And I am not so naive that there will be others who disagree. The ones who say I'm "full of shit" don't really bother me, as their lack of a cohesive argument is irrelevant to the bigger picture.
What I take from that, is that you have a philisophical viewpoint (or politicial if you will) against larger corporations in general. Not necessarily just Sony. I might be misreading you, but that seemed more philisophical/political in nature moreso than "I had a bad experience with a Sony brand device." If I'm misreading you, then forgive me.
I won't attempt convince you otherwise because I think our conversation, civil as it may be, would probably drift into "Neutral Zone" territory in a hurry. Suffice it to say I don't quite share your world view in this matter, BUT I'm not entirely without sympathy on it either.
My viewpoint is that I don't take any delight in any corporation losing money (well except maybe for the scumbag oil speculators
) as I see a lot people getting hurt by their demise. It's my understanding that Sony's stock has really dropped and will probably drop further. From the line of work I'm in, I know that can adversely affect people lives as much as identity theft. (It's entirely possibly that you yourself may have Sony stock if you have any type of 401K plan or are a member of retirement plan that holds mutual funds in trust) I just don't see the possible very serious demise of Sony's value as being good for anybody, other than perhaps to serve as a wake-up call to any other potential target of this kind of malicious attack.

Not so much political, as I am more on the conservative side of things and I'm all for free enterprise, commerce and a free market. But there are those who have taken it too far towards the breaking point and I seriously don't know how much more "auto-correcting" capability the system has left in it before it's pushed over the edge by a greedy and ultra-rich super-minority. This is definitely more of a philosophical issue for me.
I guess my big gripe with Sony is that I feel their product line sucks completely because they just don't care to make better equipment for us. I had a Sony TV that died within 2 years of purchase and before that I had a Philco that lasted almost 15 years (does Philco even exist anymore?) My dad's Sony stereo receiver also died within a couple years of purchase and the remote-controlled volume knob constantly got stuck (yes, it was hooked up to an analog servo motor and when it got stuck it couldn't change the volume instead of having a digital bypass). And I already got into my grievances with the BluRay technology (HD-DVD would have been so much better). Just pure crap! Shoddy craftsmanship, shitty customer service. All because they . don't . care. So yeah, I take it personally because I wasted my money on their junk. I realize it's partially my fault for not researching the line, but Sony did use to be a relatively good name. Not any more.

^^^ True and that is a part of the profound tragedy of the sloppy management that Sony has engaged in over the years. With any luck, the job market will continue its recovery (despite the slowness at which the recovery is occurring) and the most talented people who will be impacted by this loss will be able to find gainful employment with a competitor like Microsoft or Nintendo and those who were the root cause of their failed culture will not.
Hopefully this will be taken as an example to other such corporations that nobody is completely immune from such a downfall and will lead to a more careful scrutiny over how they conduct business.
Then again, that probably won't happen in the "real" world, but like I said in an earlier post, we can always dream...

Yeah, Uncharted 2 is amazing. It makes a better Indiana Jones than Indy 4
. What makes it so compelling is that it feels like it was written as a movie with strong characters, and so the plot doesn't feel hamfisted around the gameplay. I can see why they'd want to make a movie out of the franchise too now, although I think the sequel would be the better one to adapt, and I actually feel better in that I haven't played the first, since it works perfectly well as a standalone game. As a movie, I think it would actually make more sense to start off with this one, with the way it opens. Looking forward to the 3rd.As I mentioned, I'm not really talking just about jobs, I'm talking about the thousands, if not millions of investors who are invested in Sony. As I mentioned, it could very well be you even. I don't think behooves ANYBODY for Sony to go out of business. (Well maybe Sony's competitors.)
My co-worker was commenting on the possibility of a PS4 some day, and I'm thinking why in the world would Sony even want another console after this debacle. The PS3 has really struggled for a long time to be a profitable enterprise (I'm still not sure if is now even) and depending upon the outcomes of the inevitable flood of lawsuits, it seems like they'd want to get as far away from consoles as they can. I've already heard some rumbling of game developers having second thoughts about going forward with PS3 games.
There will eventually be a PS4, but probably not for several years. The PS3 only recently became profitable so Sony has to milk this generation for a while longer. However, getting market share is not easy and I think Sony would be very reluctant to give that up.

Could work, but he wasn't what I've had in mind while playing it. Can't remember who now, but I was thinking Ethan Hawke for Harry Flynn.
