Proportional cast representation for season 3

All the white guys stayed on board the Enterprise so they could stay canon with TOS.

But seriously, I suspect we won't be in the majority in 300 years. I think fear of this simple fact is what's driving all the weeping about skin tone on pretend space shows.

Is it wrong that I'm not concerned that my demographic may have been overlooked after a lifetime of shows about it?

To be fair, with your talk of a homogenized human species the final paragraph can easily be read as a statement towards people who care about representation in general, not just people like the op who think that there aren't enough white men on the show, but also those like @Kemaiku and me who've never been depicted on-screen. Hence my asking for clarification. FWIW I mostly agree with your previous post.

So I won't get tied to the next stake when fuel arrives, I'm absolutely delighted with the cast. I wish we had had more representational casts in the past but at least now it is starting to happen.

That's how I read it, given how often it's posted by entirely too many people especially now.
Well that justifies everything.

Honestly dont care.

Just want good stories.

The cast is already diverse and has white males and everything else.
Focus on good writing, not virtue signalling right or left.

Well, ok then.
Tilly gets promoted to Lieutenant and chief science officer when Saru and Burnham form the new dual command position.

A new straight white male castmember can then take over on the bridge repeating the computer and open hailing frequencies. That should be sufficient for a quota swm, right?

Brave post. Get ready to be ridiculed about being a 'man-baby' or some such thing. The straight white male has been castrated.

No, but it is kind of out-of-touch to cry "what about the whaaat mayun", when in basically all of sci-fi/fantasy history, white cis-het dudes were the overwhelming majority of lead characters (and women at least mostly either side characters or plot devices). Now, there is one Trek show where that is not the case - one. One. Well, boo.

...and yet, both Pike and Lorca, the captains of the first two seasons, were white cis-het dudes.

Can't you people just not get up in arms when for once - for once - you are not at the epicentre of everything? It is a bit silly. Just imagine being someone who only sees themselves represented as a stereotype or as playing second fiddle - at basically all times. Imagine mostly being a damsel in distress, a woman in a refrigerator, a stereotype, a romantic interest, a plot device ( e.g. a catalyst for a revenge plot). Imagine constantly being displayed as a piece of meat instead of a person. Imagine being part of a female audience that is constantly being condescended to or not taken seriously as a sci-fi geek. And that's not even bringing up issues of queerness or skin colour. That's what it's been like for decades for all of us who are not white cis-het men. Watch all other Trek shows if you're shedding a manly tear for the poor top of our societal vertical hierarchy. They still dominate fiction of most if not all mainstream genres.

If you are not affected by issues of mainstream representation, you really don't have a stake in it, which makes it easier to complain.
