The special effects looked rushed.
The Dominion space battle in DS9 looked far superior and that was done 20 years ago.
The federation ships looked clunky and the interiors looked like discovery styled ships.
All the warmth and charm of the late 24th century ships is gone.
romulan and starfleet bridges look more alike then ever before.
JThe thing about the costumes in PIC that really screamed 2019 to me was the presence of buttons! After years of presenting "seamless" fabric fastenings (albeit with different degrees of success) they were just way too jarring
Good.
No, I think Star Trek looking like present times in optimistic. Right now I have a hard time believing that humanity will go back to the moon, much less be an interstellar power. I think humanity is so consumed with its problems that the ideas of being in space feel further off than the 1960s.Of course you would think that. You think star trek looking like present times is creative. I think it's lazy and cheap.

But, it looking like present times makes me think it is possible. I want it to be relatable, a little bit grounded, and willing to challenge some thinking.
I don't think creative costuming makes for more optimistic future-I think it looks like costumes.
Not as much, no.I was and still can relate to the original show and it came out before I was born. So I guess since the clothes on that show don't look 20th/21st century you can't relate to the show and it's positive message for humanity?
Yeah, but enough about most of women's fashion."No pockets" was an objectively stupid rule.

I know I can find cultural references in all Trek that highlight the era it was made in. But, you laugh at it yet it is the exact same argument being made against Picard, just reversed.Lol! Wow so having humans 379 years in the future wearing 20th/21st century clothing helps you understand the story more? Yeah iII really don't get how you can't understand the optimism if TOS or TNG because of the clothes they wear. In another 379 years they won't be wearing styles that wear today and Rodennberry knew that and he attempted to make sure the characters looked different then their 20th century counterparts. All the shows before discovery understood that. The only show that had clothing close to 20th century was Enterprise and that show takes place more than 100 years before TOS and 240 years before Picard.
None of it is about predicting the future it's about being different enough that it feels futuristic. TNG and BTT2's futures were perfectly presented.
Star Trek is about our humanity in the future. If it detracts from believability then it disrupts my engagement.None of it is about predicting the future it's about being different enough that it feels futuristic. TNG and BTT2's futures were perfectly presented.
Leah Brahms' outfits in "Galaxy's Child". Photobucket's acting up, so here's a link to a photo instead. Can anyone come up with an example of good civilian clothing from TNG et al.?
The problem is that you’re confusing Star Trek with something that is legitimately meant to show what people from the future would look like, act, talk, etc. Star Trek has always been about contemporary people in a futuristic setting. Because if they weren’t contemporary people, the audience wouldn’t be able to relate to them.
"No pockets" was an objectively stupid rule.
