Probably cos only 40somethings were watching it, and didn't buy the toys. I suspect Starfleet Scouts will be aimed even younger.

Someone could mkae a PRO trilogy. Each film could be made for under 100M; it’s possible to make animated films with that budget. And then those films are broken up into episodes later and that is S3. Will anyone take that chance though?
To be fair the Prodigy marketing was crap. They didn't have much toys or merchandise to buy.

Maybe some, but there was such a missed opportunity not to get a Murph plushy out for the Holidays and I could barely find a quality Prodigy shirt. It was terrible.
I remember waiting for the announcement of the USS Protostar by Playmates. That was the only thing of the show that I really wanted to buy.
But when figures of the show were canceled I realized that the Protostar would be next even when Playmates mentioned in an article it was going to focus on ships and play accessories such as phasers and tricorders.

For those looking for something somewhat similar to Prodigy (in animation, Skeleton Crew is a good live action Star Wars series in a similar vein); the French early 80s anime series "il était une fois ... l'espace' (once upon a time, space https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Once_Upon_a_Time..._Space ) can be very nice for Star Trek fans who are willing to watch a series with a similar audience as Prodigy is targeting.
Like Prodigy, there is an overarching plot that comes nicely together at the end. The world of this series is somewhat similar tot he ST setup, with an equivalent of the Federation (Omega) and a rival, militaristic empire (Cassiopeia). The young (adult) crew has lots of adventures and during the series gets embroiled in major galactic developments.

Star Trek: Prodigy won't continue beyond the 40 released episodes, at least at Netflix. The streamer has passed on a new season, and its license for bothwww.whats-on-netflix.com
Luckily, thanks to Netflix (and the fan campaign and disk sales) Prodigy S2 was not locked away as a tax write-off. And thanks to the writers, it was actually a fitting end. Could have been worse.
I think the final nail went into the coffin when a Trek show aimed at kids failed to make any significant impact whilst it was available on a huge kids platform.
The escape to Netflix was a dying gasp if anything. It didn’t do the numbers on Netflix, like it didn’t on Nick and so here we are.
The idea that after all this, Paramount might pony up hundreds of millions of dollars to make a trilogy of movies (expressed above) is just hilarious. Big studios don’t like to invest heavily in movies that barely anyone will watch.
