Predictions for XII

I predict that Spock will use logic and find something fascinating. McCoy will use a spoon to catch every drop.

The movie poster will be orange and blue, tiny people with heads in the clouds, back turned holding a weapon, or a combination of the aforementioned movie poster cliches.

In a sharp U-turn back toward seriousness:

If the Klingons go to war against the Romulans, there might be some Vulcans who agree with the Klingons. Spock might sympathize but, for him, I don't think it would go any further than that.

The Klingons could drive the Fedeartion and the Romulans closer together; maybe even toward becoming allies. In a case like this relations between the powers in New Trek would go the exact opposite direction of Old Trek; and help make future entries more unpredictable.

I predict this. Lots of it.

The photo at left was taken with a zoom lens without a lens hood. The photo on the right was taken with the same lens in the same location, but with a properly designed lens hood. A lens hood can make the difference between a disaster and a good photo.

I'm personally hoping for the stuff on the right...
--------

As for the major plot, I'm really hoping it doesn't have to do with some huge Earth or Federation threat... There has to be some external threat resulting in action, but it doesn't have to be giant, all world ending, to be riviting. It just has to be a good story.

what if it's just a quiet drama about Spock coming to grips with the death of his mother, and Kirk brooding about losing Uhura to Spock?

No threats, no battles, just good character studies.

No? too experimental?

I'll go so far as to predict that the movie won't waste time with galactic politics. They're probably not going to talk about what the Romulans and Klingons are doing as a whole unless it ties into a TV series or something like it, because that's where that kind of thing belongs. The movie will likely focus on the Enterprise and at most two different adversaries (although I'm still counting on just one), and likely not their entire governments. These movies will probably try to be politically lite.

I agree and I don't think it would be the main focus, just that it would be in the background. One or two lines or a debriefing at most.

In all honesty, I think we could very well see Carol Marcus. If I am correct, I believe the writers actually had her in a draft for the first film.

Hmmm (tries to focus on inadvertent glimpses of 90210 suffered when changing channels), I don’t think there were quite as many explosions. Oh, and the graphics weren't as good.

Well, I seem to recall the writers, doubtless in a fit of embarrassment or even abject shame, did suggest they would inject a little more substance into the next instalment, but such lofty goals have probably long since disappeared in a blinding flash of lens flares by now. So I agree with you guys. ;)

Thus, I predict, the combination of an entertaining action movie with worthwhile, even thought provoking themes, is unlikely to be seen in the (cinematic) new universe.

I am extremely sure that the term "birds of prey" was used at least once.
This is what I find:

UHURA: I was tracking solar systems and I picked up an emergency transmission.
GAILA: Really?
UHURA: Yeah, from a Klingon prison planet.
GAILA: No?
UHURA: Yeah. A Klingon armada was destroyed. Forty-seven ships.

--------------------
MCCOY: Two Klingon vessels have entered the neutral zone and are locking weapons on us.
------
MCCOY: Three more Klingon warbirds decloaking and targeting our ship. I don't suppose this is a problem either.
------
KIRK: Hmm... arm photons, prepare to fire on the Klingon warbirds.
------
KIRK: Fire on all enemy ships. One photon each should do it, so don't waste ammunition.
CADET: Target locked and acquired on all warbirds. Firing.
CADET: All ships destroyed, Captain.
--------------------

KIRK: [...] The Kelvin attack took place on the edge of Klingon space and at twenty-three hundred hours last night, there was an attack. Forty-seven Klingon warbirds destroyed by a Romulan, sir. [...]

I think "ship" is used another time or two to refer to Klingon vessels, but I don't find "bird of prey".

Edit: The transcript I used as reference can be found here. Other than the odd typo, I've found no errors yet.

Uhura finds out that Spock is gay. So she hits on Sulu instead. This time she means it.

Meanwhile the Enterprise enters a hail storm, goes off course, and enters the Sombrero Nebula where they find a planet made of cheese and carbon fiber.

The landing party beams down to find Harry Mudd operating a resort/casino. Kirk tries his hand at the poker tables, loses a bundle, retreats to his quarters, and drinks away his sorrows, Scotty providing the liquor, of course. To Kirk's surprise, the booze is NOT green.

Waking to a pounding headache, he heads for the casino restaurant for a meal. On the way there, McCoy injects him with his latest hangover cure. But, hung over himself, McCoy administers the wrong drug, using a powerful sedative instead. "Oh well", he mutters. "I'm a drunkard, not a doctor."

Finding Kirk comatose in hallway, Spock calls the ship to announce that he is assuming command. Spock beams up, disables Scotty with a nerve pinch, and puts the ship on self-destruct. "We've lived long enough", he ponders.

Boom! They're all dead.

The End.
