Power Rangers

That's an incredibly limiting position to take, especially with regards to Power Rangers. By taking that position, you discount a number of things that are part of the fabric of the PRU's overall tapestry.
Do you have some examples? But please don't say Scorpion Rain.

^ I don't recall anything in RPM that explicitely indicates that it's meant to be set in the future other than the fact that Corinth is a domed city. Most of the Corinthian technology is analogous to what we have today, and the flashbacks - which, as noted, take place a year prior to the events of RPM proper - clearly conform to current tech.

Well, it would hardly be the first time that a work of fiction has portrayed the near to midrange future as almost identical to the present -- especially a low-budget production like Power Rangers that can't afford to populate an entire world with futuristic cars, fashions, props, etc. You can find plenty of episodes of shows like The Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits, or plenty of old B-movies, that are nominally set in the 1980s or 1990s but depict cars and phones and fashions and such that are straight out of the 1950s or '60s. '80s and '90s shows like Max Headroom and RoboCop: The Series were set some distance in the future (the latter was explicitly some distance into the 21st century according to a screen graphic at one point), but they're dated by their use of then-modern tech like big clunky cell phones and computers. More recently, ABC's Defying Gravity was allegedly set in 2052 but its producers made exactly zero effort to make its Earthbound scenes look any different from 2009. For that matter, Power Rangers SPD was explicitly set 20 years in the future, yet as I recall it looked pretty much like the present aside from the occasional alien hanging around.

Billy (Blue MMPR Ranger) and Jen (Pink Time Force Ranger)'s last names. They are officially recognized as being Cranston and Scott, respectively, but they were never said in-show and were provided instead by officially recognized auxillary materials.

There are also other things that are recognized as being official parts of PR lore but were established out-of-show, but those are the two examples I could think of.

Operation overdrive question:

What season did rita and lord zed have a off spring?
The pregnancy never happened on screen, most fans assume it was after Zeo when Rita and Zedd suddenly vanished and gave up their plans to conquer earth after destroying the royal family os the machine empire.

Linkara has finally posted the next entry in his History of Power Rangers series:

SPD

(Yeah, he posted it a month ago, but I just noticed it.)

Whoever said that Thrax would've been concieved by regular means anyway? Would YOU like to push those horns through YOUR vagina?!

We was probably conjured up by various magical means during one of the earlier times Rita and Zed crossed their magical staves, if you know what I mean. FUnctionally an offspring, just not quite biological.

I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet here:

The series will be helmed by Haim Saban, who created and produced the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series in 1993. Following its introduction, Power Rangers quickly became the most-watched children's television program in the United States. The series followed the adventures of a group of ordinary young people who "morphed" into superheroes. It was seen in more than 60 countries, translated into numerous languages, and was a mainstay in the most prominent international children's programming blocks. Power Rangers LLC, which licenses and merchandises the Power Rangers brand, is an affiliate of Saban Brands. For more information, visit www.powerrangers.com.

^So it's official, they're not skipping Gosei after all...I did sample the sentai when it came out, but never stuck with it. The first few eps were...boring. Didn't particularly care for the Gosei's angel guardian theme...
And the name ''Megaforce'' would've suited a future adaption of Go Busters better, but I guess there was no other alternative here (to downplay the angels angle).

i liked Goseiger. i know a lot of fans don't care for it but i thought it was a lot of fun. don't care what they do with it in the states...but i look forward to buying the toys.

Gokaiger won't be adapted. The claim was it is too hardcore for kids

You may be wondering why Power Rangers Megaforce used Goseiger rather than Gokaiger, which was an ideal season based on the successful execution of the anniversary concepts. I wasn’t able to get a solid answer for this question. They believed that Gokaiger’s pirate theme was more focused for boys (rather than boys and girls) and the concepts of stealing and plundering were too hardcore for a young audience.

Well this sucks for people that wanted this season adapted

Forgive me but,I'm a little confused, since I just recently started watching Samurai...they're ending it this season and starting Megaforce next season?

Yes...that's the standard set forth by the sentai series. A different version each year, with different casts and story setups. Goseiger followed Samurai Sentai Shinkenger in Japan, then came Kaizuko Sentai GoKaiger last year, and this season its Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters.

Since next year is the Power Ranger's anniversary season, many were hoping that Saban would skip Goseiger and go straight to Gokaiger. But that excuse sounds pretty lame about dodging the pirate theme out of fear it wouldn't appeal to both boys and girls. The 5 Gokaigers weren't from Earth anyways, and were only outlaws in the Zangyack Empire.

Channel 5 is to be airing PR Samurai. Hopefully, they'll do a better job than ITV, given it's tendency to skip episodes and their cropping and zooming of shows to widescreen.

http://kidscreen.com/2012/06/12/channel-5-picks-up-power-rangers-samurai/

L.A.-based MarVista Entertainment, the exclusive international distributor for Saban Brands’ Power Rangers franchise, has licensed Power Rangers Samurai and Power Rangers Super Samurai to the UK’s Channel 5. Episodes of both half-hour seasons will premiere later this summer in the channel’s new weekend animation block for boys.

Recently announced new international broadcast partners for Power Rangers Samurai, include Spain’s 24-hour kids channel Boing, Venezuela’s Venevision, Chile’s Mega and Sonic, part of the Nickelodeon platform in India. These international partners join existing International partners, including Nickelodeon (multiple territories), Channel 9 (Australia), TV4 (New Zealand), Canal J and Gulli (France), Mediaset’s Italia 1 and Boing (Italy) and Televisa (Mexico). In total, Power Rangers Samurai reaches more than 150 territories across the globe.

Saban Brands plans to support the Channel 5 UK market launch with character appearances, retail promotions and advertising.

Just read about Megaforce today. Kind of a dumb name, but it's just a name.

Some more interesting info from that article (bolding mine):

Here’s the interesting part: Power Rangers Megaforce will not be like the Sentai version. We’ve heard this before in the past and wonder how is it different now. Power Rangers Megaforce will have an original story that is centered on five high-school teenagers. The concept sounds familar to the first season (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers). The show will still use the traditional Sentai footage, but the story will be completely new and original. Megaforce will actually surprise fans. RoboKnight (placeholder name) will appear fairly early in the season. Power Rangers Megaforce Season 2 (2014) will be “crazy” (direct quote from them).
So that means no angel stuff.

And about season 2 beaing "crazy", I wonder if that means that's when the "Legend War" footage that Toei shot for Saban will be used (assuming they really aren't adapting Gokaiger at all).

ETA: High quality Megaforce poster image, with title logo.

Those are pretty nice costumes.

And I'm glad they're not going to be slavishly adapting the Sentai storyline this time, although I'm not sure what they replace it with will be any good.

Goseiger would be hard to directly adapt as the Rangers are actually 'angels' in training...and take orders from a being called Master Head.
