Possible new job: mildly freaking out

I say give yourself about 2 months to complete everything before starting a new job. A start date is all part of negotiating your job package.

You need time to hunt for an apartment, tie up loose ends where you are now, give 2 weeks at work, set up phone, cable, electric, etc. at the new place, get set up at a local bank there, deal with changing your address on your license, checks, etc., actually move, and get semi-settled before starting the new job.

If you skimp on time to get situated, you will end up having to cut out of your new job a lot the first few weeks to take care of some of that stuff, which doesn't make a great impression.

I'm still just trying to wrap my head around the fact that I applied for this job YESTERDAY. Life moves so fast sometimes!

I had an interview this morning for a job I applied for in May. Life can also move slowly.

Hope today goes well!!

I got here too early, so I'm hanging out at Panera right now. I just want to get this over with!

Two months? Are you serious? One hell of a way to make a prospective employer wait. "Could you please hold off on filling the vacancy for two months while I get settled into my new place?" :vulcan:

Please let us know how it goes. Wouldn't it be wonderful to never have to urinate (or poo) again in that awful employee bathroom you've told us about? I've had nightmares about that bathroom.

Hey, freaking out is very understandable. I literally freak out at interviews as well and run through these crazy scenarios all in my head. But just take it one step at a time and good luck!!! Keep us posted and let us know how it goes!

Well, that interview was underwhelming. The job is mine if I want it, but I'm a little annoyed. I was supposed to be interviewed by the district manager, but he got stuck in meetings or something, so he didn't show up. Instead, I got "interviewed" by the GM of the store. This "interview" basically consisted of him going, "What job were you applying for?" and saying, "Okay, we can do that."

It was weird. And short. I drove 2 hours for an interview that lasted about 5 minutes.

Could it be a big guy + instructor position = sense to that guy. He may just have seen you and assumed there was no need for questions afterwards where someone with more interview experience may want too quiz you a bit.

It's possible. I mean, the guy was interviewing me in the middle of his workout! I have a feeling he had other things on his mind.

Maybe don't look a gift job in the mouth? Disect it all you want, but didn't you just get offered the job you were looking for, in the location you were looking for, presumably at a pay level you can accept?

Who cares how tough the interview was, if you wanted the job before, jump on it! Hell, I was interviewing for an Engineering job in 2003, and the manager was out of town, so I got put with a guy that was preparing to retire. Two minutes worth of questions, then he blew off the rest, showed me around, and we shot the shit about fishing. Job seems to still be working out fine. :)

Sometimes, if the qualifications are all obvious on the resume, and there's no glaring problems, it's really more just a matter of checking the personality. Making sure they can live with you, you look fairly professional and on time, and generally not a tool....

Oh, I know. I just wish that it had been a little more comprehensive since I did drive 2 hours there and back for the thing. 4 hours in the car is not a small amount of time.

Yeah, seems like a waste, but you DID get the job. You wouldn't be any MORE hired if you spent 8 hours there, thorough testing, sample workouts, etc. You might feel more justified in the drive out, but you'd get the same job...
