Possible music from Discovery revealed on twitter

For some reason the first 5 or 10 seconds remind me of the Galaxy Quest theme. Overall it seems pretty good though.

Based on what he said in the prevous Tweet:
This recording session was a showcase for CBS indeed. But nothing can be said at this time :)
Says to me that he wrote this music specifically for CBS to use for upcoming CBSAA commercials before the Superbowl as well as during the Neilsen Sweeps period in February on CBS-owned channels CBS, The CW, MTV Networks, BET Networks. Since no footage has been shot yet of Star Trek DSC it may be that they intend to use this music as teases on Social Media and during a Winter investors meeting for CBS with a few shots of Star Trek DSC.

That would be before it was announced that ST DSC would be pushed to a May 2017 premiere date. So some music is in the can and he may be one of 2 or 3 composers for the 13-episodes. Maybe he is doing the premiere episode for DSC? Maybe he is only doing music for the promos leading up to May's premiere?
Maybe he is scoring another one of CBSAA original programs? The Good Wife spinoff show titled The Good Fight does not have a Composer listed on imdb even though that show starts in February on CBSAA.

Works for me. I used to watch the themes of TNG VOY and DS9 even if I recorded them on VHS, but I FFed ENT with anger and aggression every time.

IMDb is user-contributed. Either the composer has to be announced that way a non-industry person can submit it, the composer him or herself submits it, somebody on the production submits it, or it doesn't get listed.

I did a quick search and I couldn't find any composer mentioned yet.

It could be no one has been hired yet -- late game hires do happen. It could also be somebody was hired and has scored the pilot, but the producers and/or studio isn't liking it and they're looking for somebody else. Pilot scores do get tossed, and in at least two examples I knjow of, a composer scored multiple episodes but then all were rejected and a new series composer hired.

Chances are if somebody does get announced, you'll see it on www.FilmMusicReporter.com

In regards to this Trek music demo, it's just there for me; not particularly noticable or memorable, but also not inoffensive. I'd say the hunt still needs to go on.

I would also hope what ever theme is used, it opens with the Courage fanfare. Goldsmith and Rosenman were right to do the same for the films.

Is it significant that they're recording with an actual orchestra? As far as I'm aware, most TV projects can only stretch to a synthestra these days.

We don't know yet if they are recording with an orchestra for score to be used i na show -- this is a demo, and it's not rare that demos get recorded with orchestras.

While I have zero interest in the series, I do however hold out hope for the music, since Trek usually inspires composers. But I fear for the worst with synth scores, no matter of well done. I would HOPE CBS understands the musical legacy of Trek and would spring for scores done with live orchestras, but I don't know.....

^^ It does a bit, but I have no problem with that. It sounds good to me, although I was hoping for something more retro and ethereal, to segue into TOS.

I like it. It's both familier enough to follow the old Trek lines, but still fresh.

Whether its just a demo or to be used as a full theme, I just hope they score the show well. Some of Trek's music in the latter years was very.... unmemorable.

As a main theme it would be pretty forgettable. Hopefully it's not. Episodic score-wise, I was personally hoping for much more experimental and synth, rather than the strings of an orchestra.

From what I gathered, this isn't the new theme, but rather this composer's audition for the job. Still, I like it. It feels Star Trekky enough but still new.

Blah. Sounds bland like the Voyager theme. I was hoping for something in the style of the ship teaser, more... actual and energetic. This would work as background music for the end credits.
