Possible music from Discovery revealed on twitter

Blah. Sounds bland like the Voyager theme.

Wow, among the few people I have talked to about the theme songs, we all agree that Voyager is great, maybe the best. I am surprised to hear someone with such a low opinion of Voyager's theme.

As for the Avelange music, I thought it sounded great too.

Makes me think back to how Enterprise could have had Archer's Theme (the song in the closing credits) as the opening theme song. Would have been so much better.

Don't know about the best, but I agree that Voyager's theme was as good as the other 'traditional' openers.

I also agree that 'Archer's Theme' would have been better than 'Faith of the Heart'.

Voyager has always been the weakest show for me, but the opening theme is every bit as good as any other Trek theme in my opinion. It's strong, powerful and evokes the spirit of exploration....very much as the video linked in the OP does in my opinion. I would be more than happy with a theme similar to the scoring sessions above. Something that makes you feel good. Something that inspires you to feel good about humanity's future. Music can be a very powerful tool in that regard.

I have to say that I disagree. The pacing doesn't match, is too slow and the "pop" elements of the theme are it's undoing.

It's maybe a beat or two off...

Not sure where you're getting '"pop" elements' from, it's seems more jazz or maybe soft rock to me? Also has a few beats, tho not maybe, that remind me a little of a less brassy/country version theme to The Waltons (by Jerry Goldsmith who with Dennis McCarthy, who composed the above, also composed much of the TOS movie era music and the TNG theme).

Fairly uninspiring. Glad it's not the actual work for the show. Was hoping, expecting, a bit more edginess like in the teaser.

^^ Well, since this isn't a broadcast show, I'm hoping for more than that.

I'd expected a title card and brief musical cue, much like the promo, but I'm hoping for something more. Don't really care either way. How the credits are presented is the least important thing I can think of about the show! :p

I wonder why we don't have the name of a composer yet. We often get announcement of composers for film and TV series months, even a a year in some rare cases, in advance. Usually about six months.

And with the original premiere date set for January (but now May), there should have been at least one composer to announce. This is too oddly secretive.

Is it significant that they're recording with an actual orchestra? As far as I'm aware, most TV projects can only stretch to a synthestra these days.
It seems to be common to spring for an orchestra for the pilot (I know that Blake Neely did for The Flash and Supergirl), even if the rest of the show is done via synth.

Or the producers simply are that far behind on pre-production. It would be nice if they had a name to announce (four letters, sounds like hair ;)), but I don't think it's "oddly secretive" yet.

The date moving doesn't change talks that would have already happened and possible signings. Now, a moved date could change the availability of a composer and lead to him or her not scoring an episode or even any episode if he or she ends up on another TV series.

I really hope this is the style of music they'll be using in Discovery. Good spot btw!

As long as they haven't gone down the path of Enterprise i'll be happy. If you've ever had the chance - take a listen to the song without the singing. Much better.
