The dude who wrote the script (Bob Orci) has confirmed that the dog is indeed Porthos. I was right all along!! Hopefully we will see Porthos in the next movie, unless the dog asks for too much money or refuses to do a cameo.

I've heard rumors that dogs and humans are different species. That may have something to do with why medical advances for one don't apply to the other.

We're both mammals. Fundamentally we're the same.

If we're to believe they can qunituple beagle life spans then they should at the very least be able to double human life spans.

(Keep in mind, that though we've seen humans in trek live to as old as 140 and Archer would've probably been almost 150 during Scotty incident, 150 is reasonably within the limits of a human life span and would be achievable with advanced medical science. Porthos, however, if he was the one to be in the transporter accident, would've lived FIVE TIMES the maximum life span for his species.)

Porthos would be about 110 were he the dog Scotty beamed. Unless Archer put him in a cryogenic kennel for decades the little darlin' wouldn't be alive in the 23rd century.

I am aware of this. The post I quoted made a statement as though it was a fact accepted by every Trek fan. This is what I questioned.

^ Why wouldn't it be accepted fact by every Trek fan that Data had multiple cats that he named Spot? There were at least two varieties and two genders during the run of TNG, and they were all "Spot".

it's not farfetched that Archer would keep getting Beagles and naming them Porthos. I'm on my second Bud The Cat and people who haven't seen me in many years are astounded he still looks so good.
