Poor, pathetic Neelix

You_Guyz

Commander
I just realised that Neelix had three love interests in the course of the show. One dumped him, left and then came back to try and kill him. The other was murdered (Random Thoughts) and the final one convinced him to spend the rest of his life in some God forsaken asteroid.
Poor pathetic Neelix, sometimes I wonder how he just didn't kill himself or live in the holodeck half the time.

He spent a month as a feral Klingon.

Odds are, he did it with half the crew and the Doctor was over booked for abortions by the end of that adventure because no one knew who's baby they were carrying or where they'd sewed their seed.

Well, as I see it, it wasn't exactly his former girlfriend who came back and tired to kill her but an evil copy.

Anyway, Neelix is definitely one of the characters I really feel sorry for because of his tragic background. Still he tried to keep his spirit up and also tried to cheer everybody else up too, even if his attempts to do so were a bit hysterical sometimes.

But he did his best in a very difficult situation which makes him admirable in a way.

Neelix grew on me - mostly in retrospect after the show's run ended and I had time to think about him - and YIKES - as I grew older.

Neelix was a really brave person - he constantly defied Tuvok's superiority, his obvious lack of expertise in much, and everyone else's dismissal of him as a short order cook - to become someone a lot of people depended on and a leader who showed his own people how to stand up for themselves and that they were worth it. His hit and miss love life made him seem pathetic but it also made him more sympathetic to people who were down.

Actually, he had "another" love interest, but SHE convinced him to join Dexa on that hollow asteroid. (Hey, I'm just going with what Ethan Phillips says at the conventions.)

^^Naomi? And I don't mean love interest like that! In spite of the controversy discussed in another thread, Neelix was no pedophile!

oh stop! I can't even think about that! ick!

What Neelix says in "The Voyager Conspiracy" pretty cements in canon that he was gettin jiggy with Kes when she was like 5 months old or something.

But when she was five months old, she waas physically and emotionally 18 Earth years old, given their accelerated aging.

*I* find it creepy, but I have a hard time flat saying that it's wrong.

Well that's contradictory.

She didn't leave the city till after her father died near her first birthday, and she had her second birthday during the episode twisted which is arguably still season one because of all the production shenanigans.

[Mess hall]
NEELIX: Looking for a midnight snack?
SEVEN: I require information. I'm attempting to determine whether the catapult technology was derived from the Caretaker's array.
NEELIX: So I heard. A fascinating theory. It's got my mind spinning.
SEVEN: How long were you in the vicinity of the array before Voyager arrived?
NEELIX: About a year. Kes was on a nearby planet and, er, we were getting very close.
SEVEN: Did you ever encounter the Caretaker directly?
NEELIX: Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no. In my opinion, any being powerful enough to grab ships from the other side of the galaxy should be avoided.
SEVEN: According to Voyager's database, he claimed he was searching for a genetically compatible mate. Did you believe that explanation?
NEELIX: I had no reason to doubt it, though it did seem a bit excessive. I mean, all those ships.
SEVEN: What happened to them?
NEELIX: Well, after he sampled the crew's DNA he sent them back where they came from. I suppose. You know, Kes always thought something more was going on, but she had quite an imagination.
SEVEN: Were there any other ships in the area after Voyager arrived?
NEELIX: Only the Kazon.
SEVEN: But the Caretaker could have pulled in another vessel. A cloaked ship, perhaps.
NEELIX: Seven, what are you getting at?
SEVEN: A third ship, hidden from both Voyager and the Kazon.
NEELIX: What was it doing there?
SEVEN: Preventing the tetryon reactor from being destroyed.
NEELIX: Kes was right. Something was going on.
SEVEN: Voyager's sensor logs were damaged in the Kazon attack. I can't be certain.
NEELIX: Maybe I can help. The sensor records off my ship weren't damaged. I can give them to you.
The bolded bit was for Anwar.

Interesting though? She got off world and dated Neelix before the Kazon enslaved her?

That blows my "he stole her from her rightful owners!!" argument out of the water.

:guffaw:
I've seen this posted so many times in this forum over the years I can't help but laugh. The notion that Neelix was doinking an infant human is just so absurd...yet people still post it.
