Poor Jeri Ryan

Seven was an interesting character and injected a lot of life into the franchise. The mistakes they made were:

a) Writing out Kes completely instead of telling her story gradually in maybe 6 episodes or so spread over the first half of the season.
b) Making Jeri wear such an outrageous outfit.

I think Kate Mulgrew was angry at losing a member of her team and angry that the reasons for doing so were so transparent and may have let that affect the way she treated the new kid. Having said that, Jennifer Lien was starting to suffer problems with the prosthetics on her skin and as her character aged, she would have had to wear more and more makeup. I think Kes should have been given an arc to leave but I was very unhappy at the rushed way she was bundled out the door.

Kes was one of the more interesting characters but they almost never used her to good effect. At least with Seven they managed to find stories. It was more of a problem with the writers than the actors overall and the same holds true for Beltran and Wang, who were never really given more than one or two good episodes per season.

I've always said that Voyager's mistake was having too small a supporting cast so some of the characters had nobody to bounce off. If the twins, Golwat, and those maquis crew had featured more than once, it might have made for a more interesting mix and Seven's 'Borg Implants' wouldn't have needed to be quite so prominent...

I agree with most of your points here but I do have to add some comments as well.

Jennifer Lien's allergic problems weren't the reason for her being dumped. They did actually solve that problem by letting Kes have long hair, thus omitting the Ocampa ears.

As for Kes's aging, they could have solved that by prolonging her lifespan. There were hints for that in some episodes, most notably "Cold Fire".

I do think they could have kept Kes even if they had to add Seven to the cast.

As for other characters, they could have done more of Dalby, Henley, Chell and Gerron. A pity that their development in "Learning Curve" never was followed up. They were good characters.

All true. We had a bit of Chell in year 7 and I thought he did ok. Gerron would have been a good one too - plenty of scope for development while Dalby and Henley would have made great cannon fodder! One of the good things about BSG was that their use of a really wide supporting cast meant that they can kill off characters who meant something with alarming regularity.

I realize that I'm so not as smart as everyone else here and I truly appreciate how patient you all are with my moronic self, but can someone explain to me what this has to do with Jeri?

Did she fire Jennifer? Did she write episodes?

What am I missing here?

:rommie: true. it is entertaining to watch, it's almost as bloody as politics. not that anyone here would stoop to politics! :rommie:

It's almost a blood sport, don't you think?

These recurring threads remind me of a school yard fight over whose daddy can beat up every body else's daddy. It is entertaining to sit on the sidelines and watch it all unfold, taking a moment to lob in the occasional comment for good measure.

Sure beats cleaning the house. :guffaw:

I'd agree but I don't actually clean my house very often if I can help it. lost the dog last week . . .

And these posts about the posters rather than the subject remind me of high school cliques.

Ah, yes, very entertaining. I like to think of them as 'popcorn time'. Just sit off to the side and let the fireworks begin. ;)

Well, at least no one's mentioned Jennifer Lien's ubiquitous acid trips yet.

Whoops.

Why do you come up with that crap? It has never been confirmed in any way that she should have been fired for drug abuse. In fact, the drug rumor did actually start about another Star Trek actor and when Jennifer was kicked out, the rumor sort of "spilled over" to her.

Lynx, you misunderstood me, my friend. I was speaking in jest. ;)
I never believed those rumors either, but I'm fascinated that some people insist on it.

Back on topic, I don't believe that Jeri Ryan sobs herself to sleep every night. If anything, I'm sure she's proud of her accomplishments. And if she and Mulgrew didn't get along... well, I am sure they have plenty of other friends on the playground to play with.

PS. If the YouTube link Kate @ Bournemouth, she looks great. I wish there had been more of Mulgrew in Janeway. I doubt much of Ryan was in Seven. But I don't know her personally.

"I'm not a feminist. But I'm a woman..." - Mulgrew

I was just checking the Voyager IMDB page. Roxann Dawson and Robert Duncan McNeil have made it big. Jeri Ryan,Tim Russ and Ethan are doing ok.

Where's Garret? Damn the guy had a 7 year gig and he couldn't establish himself? Kim being useless is one thing but the actor doing the same?

I think the dude just lacks ambition.
However last I heard he was getting out of acting and persuing a career in sports. I don't know whatever came of it.

Well I hope he has luck in his new career. It's kind of sad to do barely nothing for 7 years but get paid and not come off better. He could have gotten into writing or directing.

..or even improve his own acting skills by learning from his peers. How could you work around such talented actors as Robert Picardo, Kate Mulgrew, Tim Russ & Jeri Ryan for 16 hours a day and not come away wanting to up your own skills to be on par?

I remember hearing or reading in an interview a long time ago where Garrett said he knew he wanted to go into show business; that his parents didn't want him to; and that he was going to go into show business if he had to wind up doing a lounge act somewhere.

I don't know what happened to his drive on that score. Maybe his drive was geared more toward rebelling against his parents' wishes than being in show business.

For the love of God, mods, just close this thread. This is ridiculous.

I started on page one and went up through page 7, got sick of the bickering and figured a mod would have stepped in midway and told someone to cool it, but here I jump to page 17 and you guys are saying the SAME THINGS I FOUND ON PAGE 7. Geez oh petes.

"You're not reading what I'm saying"

"No you're not reading what I'm saying"

Stop behaving like 3 year old children and please have a worthwhile discussion that GOES SOMEWHERE.

A) They are actors. Just because their characters get along doesn't mean the actors get along.
B) It is possible to act in a professional manner towards a co-worker. I know this concept is foriegn to about half of the American working force, but it is.
C) From what I have seen, neither Mulgrew nor Ryan have acted in an unprofessional manner. Mulgrew has some very excellent points and both seem to have done their job just fine despite the disagreements with the suits.
D) If it really bothered either of them that badly, they would have quit. It has been known to happen on other shows, just look at Greys Anatomy.

You might have a point there.
