Poor Jeri Ryan

I see. Well even if there is some animosity, that doesn't automatically translate into "nastiness" or "disrespect," which are a couple of the words that have been tossed around here. I mean, trust me, I have some coworkers who aren't that fond of me, and vice versa, and we manage to stumble along all right. You simply have to work together. It's just one of those things. I don't see any reason to make a big deal about it, and clearly Jeri agrees since she hasn't.

So I still don't really understand this thread. Oh, well. The beauty of a forum like this that everybody doesn't have to have the same interest in every aspect of Trekdom.

Edit: Oh, and as I said, I don't know if there were or weren't animosities, but this is just not true:

I will say from my own personal view point, that if no animosities were stirred up, this rumor wouldn't have gotten this far to our ears or lasted this long if there wasn't the slightest truth to it.

Do you really believe that? Do you really believe that gossip needs to be based in reality to have staying power? Because it doesn't - not here in the real world, and definitely not in Hollywood either. Exodus, workplaces thrive on gossip, and not all of it is based on fact (though some is, of course). I could point you out some great examples right here in my own workplace, including some that involve me. ;)

Why "poor Jeri Ryan"?

She got a lot of publicity, made a lot of money and have had some success after Voyager too.

OK, she didn't get along with Mulgrew (who was annoyed over the treatment of a good friend and probably unhappy with being shoved aside as the star of the show) but what does that matter. Ryan wasn't fired for no reason or mistreated in any way.
Feelings of animosity directed at a co-worker for no reason of their own is mistreatment. Ryan did nothing personal to Mulgrew, if it wasn't Jeri Ryan she would have been nasty to whomever that hired for the part.

AuntKate, so how much money does it cost to endure being treated like shit on a daily bases?

You know, I think I could put up with a lot for what Jeri was probably being paid.

Including having your life threatened by a costume malfunction?

Bear in mind that it *wasn't* the catsuit for which you've professed your dislike, but the Borg costume she wore in Scorpion that blocked sufficient blood flow through her carotid artery. I think it doesn't take a medical degree to understand that the result of insufficient blood to the brain is a stroke.

So, is the money she was making worth that? Would you put up with that quietly?

Remember that Kate's response to that was that professionals don't complain about costumes or makeup.

Meanwhile her own complaints about the hair & padded bras are legendary--and applauded by fans.

So maybe one of you could explain to me why it's okay to complain about a padded bra and not okay to complain about a costume which neck is so tight it's making you pass out.

I'm sure there's a terrific explanation, but I've been asking and asking and asking and asking...

And no one answers.

Sorry but I'm not interested in what happns at your job, just as I'm sure their is little interest in mine.
As I said, you can form whatever conclusion you wish.
I believe what I heard and saw from Mulgrew's own mouth nor would she feel the need to make a public apology. The rumor exists, both actresses are asked about it and here we are outside the Paramount lot talking about it.

^^ Yeah, and you know what? We all need to get a life. Kate Mulgrew is no saint, and I imagine Jeri Ryan has her flaws, too. What really matters to me is that they delivered excellent work on Voyager in spite of (or maybe because of) their personal feelings for each other. Who is more or less culpable is really none of my business.

It beats talking about "What's Your Favorite Character or Episode" over & over again.

Exodus, you and I seem to have a lot of trouble understanding each other. I say this not as a criticism (of either one of us) but simply as a matter of fact. I wasn't asking for you to pity poor me about my job - I like my job, most of the time. My only real issue with your earlier post was where you said that you believed that if this wasn't real, "This rumor wouldn't have gotten this far."

All my example was intended to convey was that there are real life examples - it doesn't matter if it's my job, your job or Actor X's job - of rumors that continue to circulate even if there is no truth to them. Rumors don't have to have any truth to go far. Maybe this one does, maybe this one doesn't, but the fact that it circulates doesn't indicate its truth or falsity.

That's all I was trying to say.

If you have no interest, then why do you keep reading and responding to these threads?

And, BTW, I do have a life, thank you very much. This is a mere diversion for a couple of hours a week.

Once again, you can believe whatever you wish. Which means, I accept your opinion and respect why you have it even if I don't agree with it due to my own. I'm sorry you choose take issue with mine. I honestly don't have any misunderstanding on this. I think the problem rests in accepting my opinion as my own.

^ Fair enough. But you know the only opinion I've expressed is "rumors sometimes lie," right? That's the only thing I know for sure.

Everything else that I've posted, at least recently (I can't speak for all 15 pages), basically comes down to "What evidence that's been posted in this thread have I missed?" Because I have no idea what happened on the set of VOY. I thought I'd made that clear, so my apologies for not doing so.

Seriously, just let it go.;)

^ Seriously, I just wanted to make sure you understand my opinion as well as you think you do - sorry if I've gone on and on. We have had some misunderstandings in the past, and all I've been trying to do is ensure that we haven't had one this time. Seriously.

It's a message board and we're talking about B.S. sci-fi and the actors on it. Nothing here is that serious.;)

Well, at least no one's mentioned Jennifer Lien's ubiquitous acid trips yet.

Whoops.

Seven was an interesting character and injected a lot of life into the franchise. The mistakes they made were:

a) Writing out Kes completely instead of telling her story gradually in maybe 6 episodes or so spread over the first half of the season.
b) Making Jeri wear such an outrageous outfit.

I think Kate Mulgrew was angry at losing a member of her team and angry that the reasons for doing so were so transparent and may have let that affect the way she treated the new kid. Having said that, Jennifer Lien was starting to suffer problems with the prosthetics on her skin and as her character aged, she would have had to wear more and more makeup. I think Kes should have been given an arc to leave but I was very unhappy at the rushed way she was bundled out the door.

Kes was one of the more interesting characters but they almost never used her to good effect. At least with Seven they managed to find stories. It was more of a problem with the writers than the actors overall and the same holds true for Beltran and Wang, who were never really given more than one or two good episodes per season.

I've always said that Voyager's mistake was having too small a supporting cast so some of the characters had nobody to bounce off. If the twins, Golwat, and those maquis crew had featured more than once, it might have made for a more interesting mix and Seven's 'Borg Implants' wouldn't have needed to be quite so prominent...

Why do you come up with that crap? It has never been confirmed in any way that she should have been fired for drug abuse. In fact, the drug rumor did actually start about another Star Trek actor and when Jennifer was kicked out, the rumor sort of "spilled over" to her.

The original drug rumor about that other actor has never been confirmed either.

I agree with most of your points here but I do have to add some comments as well.

Jennifer Lien's allergic problems weren't the reason for her being dumped. They did actually solve that problem by letting Kes have long hair, thus omitting the Ocampa ears.

As for Kes's aging, they could have solved that by prolonging her lifespan. There were hints for that in some episodes, most notably "Cold Fire".

I do think they could have kept Kes even if they had to add Seven to the cast.

As for other characters, they could have done more of Dalby, Henley, Chell and Gerron. A pity that their development in "Learning Curve" never was followed up. They were good characters.
