"I'm a trek fan, not a scientist!"

More like: "I live in the Trek universe, not a scientific one." :D

Re: POLL: What are you looking Forward to most in

I'm compelled to vote other. I rather like the Archer/T'Pol dynamic, and would like to see it continue, at a glacial Mulderian and Scullyesque pace. If we take the characters as given, with T'Pol the oldest crewmember, the idea of two relatively mature, driven individuals, both with their own load of prejudices slooowwwwly finding their way towards some mutual regard is an interesting one. But I don't want it rammed down my throat. A glance held a half beat too long can speak volumes in this sort of thing. The issue of Trip/T'Pol, which seems to have people so exercised right now doesn't seem to work so well, at least for me. Now we're, or at least the producers are, not talking about the characters, a (what, 60 something?)Vulcan woman and a much younger, and relatively immature subordinate. So I guess we and they are just talking about Trineer and Blalock, young attractive eye candy.Which will soon enough lead the producers to wondering if his rogaine is going to do the job or if they need to start thinking about getting him a hairpiece, or if maybe Jolene looks a little puffy today? A bad thing to put actors through, especially when they're doing such good work otherwise. My only other desire regarding A/T is that he do half the adapting necessary to making the relationship work. I am really weary of the "slowly stumbling towards being human" thing that seems so part and parcel of Star Trek. Data, EMH, Seven. It's tired, and it does so seem that the humanity they're stumbling toward is a kind of white, male, middle aged, upper middle class kind of deal. It's insulting. A thought about the series moving to a story arc format- I agree that it allows much more complex and nuanced story telling, but does it not also exclude new viewers? If you don't catch the train coming out of the station, it's hard to get on. Remember Murder 1? One long arc, and people stopped watching because they couldn't figure out what was going on, and couldn't be bothered to try.Plenty of other things to watch. So maybe not the best idea if you don't want the show cancelled. I'd like them to use the rest of the cast. Any ensemble show has central and less central cast members, but knowing the second bananas back story does not mean we know them. We need to see behaviors. NYPD Blue does this superbly. Enterprise's guys are virtually interchangeable. These are good actors that deserve better. So what I really want is better writing-too much to ask? Less strip mining of old Star Trek scripts and popular movies, less "ripped from the headlines" suliban/taliban, xindi/iraqi stuff- instead character driven dialogue, exciting stories, surprises, maybe a touch of humor. Too much to ask? I guess we should be glad that UPN doesn't have as itchy a trigger finger as Fox did for Firefly.Maybe the producers of Enterprise will get a chance to get the show on track. I hope so. Oooh, but I also hope I don't see a Vulcan playing tonsil hockey.

Re: POLL: What are you looking Forward to most in

Trinneer and Blalock bring so much more to that dynamic than their appearance. So much more. If they were interested in pairing the prettiest male with Jolene they would have chosen Anthony Montgomery. His body is better than Scott's and Connor's at the end of the day and his facial features are more elegant and handsome.

Archer is her captain. He is her friend--that is where their mutual affection lies. It's a beautiful dynamic. When they try to force flirting it fails. B&B have made the right move. That way the lovely dynamic that exists now between Archer and T'Pol can continue. :)

Re: POLL: What are you looking Forward to most in

vulcan mature at a far slower rate then humans in so many ways.
a hundred year old vulcan for instance is just entering in middle age.

so in many ways trip and tpol are closer together age wise then you think.

Re: POLL: What are you looking Forward to most in

ok, this begs the question..at what age does a Vulcan female reach her sexual peak?

Has this ever been determined? just curious.

Hold on a sec. I thought Vulcans experience Pon Farr in their seventh year of life and every seven years thereafter...

Re: POLL: What are you looking Forward to most in

^^^ really? starting at 7 years old? that must be VERY traumatic for a kid to go through.

Also, is sex the only cure for Pon Farr? If so, what do you do if your mate isnt anywhere closeby (happened to Tuvok) or you dont have a mate that time around?

sorry if im going off topic. im curious.

Re: POLL: What are you looking Forward to most in

spock was just going through his first in amok time and he was in his mid 40's..
it is possible it is something that is set when the bonding takes place...
maybe they moved spocks up some due to his being half human..
it seems once you go through it then you have to deal with it ever seven years..
but the every seven years i suspect is for males.

really so little is know about vulcan females and pon farr..

Re: POLL: What are you looking Forward to most in

And another thing...if 2 committed vulcans arent in synch when one hits pon farr, can the other one play along even though he/she isnt in the mood?

If so, then that means Vulcans can have sex any time they want, right? Not just when they really really need to?

Re: POLL: What are you looking Forward to most in

This is probably (in fact I'm pretty sure it is) fannon, but the mental link is what supposedly puts them in synch. And I've never heard of it starting at age 7, only every 7 years once it did start. And as for age 7... ewww... I hope not.

Remember Vorik in the Voyager episode Blood Fever. His Pon Farr was resolved when he fought Belanna down on the planet.
Wasn't Spock's Pon Farr resolved when his fought Kirk?

So apparently Pon Farr can be resolved by
  • Mating
  • Ritual Fighting
  • Meditation is avilable to mature Vulcans who are trained in advanced techniques of the Kolonar.

Trip and T'Pol close in age - totally illogical.

Congradulations pookha you have won a trip to Vulcan for lesons in logic and maths. You can collect your ticket from McKinley Station. ;)

Is life span percentage, perhaps, what was intended?

The actors are reasonably close in age and the characters appear so on-screen -- it could hardly be otherwise -- therefore avoiding the creep-factor involved in so many pairings of much older men with young women on tv and in the movies. T'Pol's supposed age doesn't do a thing to change that; who really cares?

Someone probably does.

I will say without any shame, guilt or remorse, that I can hardly wait for it to be cancelled.

Anyone with balls wanna agree? :p

My first thought when I saw the Subject Line. I vote death to ENT by cancellation after the Novemeber sweeps.

I have to agree with Stewey... To save Trek, if possible, this abomination known as Enterprise has to go...
