Poll--The Doctors of Star Trek

Hmmm, let's go through the list:
-Pulaski: There's just something I can't really stand about the woman as a doctor from what I remember of her, though admiteddly I didn't see much of her. The impression I got from her was that she was a bit 'brittle' if that makes any sense.
-Bones: He'd be willing to stick his neck as far out as necessary for you, and a decent sense of humour. He may take getting used to in his bluntness, but I could appreciate that.
-EMH: His bed side manner was atrocious to begin with, but he became warmer as time went on. He'd also probably be a good person to have a chat with anyway.
-Bashir: Good doctor, but there's a bit of a smug air to him that might grate on one for a bit, the sort of 'bohemian academic' that might annoy people.
-Crusher: Competent, warm, and I certainly wouldn't mind waking up to that face after a coma, as has been said
-Phlox: His use of more 'natural' remedies would probably take some getting used to, though at least it shows a willingness to try anything to help his patients.
Grrr, it's too difficult to choose one

Nice wrap up of the Docs. Bashir's smugness was one of the things that endeared him to me. The same goes for The Doctor.
Having just seen VGR's Nothing Human I'm tempted to put the cat amongst the pigeons and cast a vote for Doctor Crell Moset of Cardassia
Bones for me. I love his no nonsense approach. Part of the charm is Bones' interaction with Kirk and Spock. You (or at least I) have to factor that in when your talking about best doc.
Close second would be Bashir. I wish though that the writers had "known" about the genetic engineered aspect of his character in the beginning of the show. It would have been interesting to hint at something like this for a couple of years and then reveal it, but it felt tacked on like "hey we could do this to Bashir" rather than something that seemed like a natural progression of the character. Oh well, I still like Bashir...

Of course I should have said wives, not to insult Phlox. I'm sure he would want to show us pictures of them all.
See, this is interesting...Though my favorite Treks are DS9, and TOS, respectively, I find that some of the very reasons I like these shows so much - believeable, interesting characters with multiple layers of personality, inner conflicts and personal hang-ups - are the very reasons I WOULDN'T want to go with, as my top choices, with either of their doctors. Sorry, if I'm in between life and death, I don't want my practitioner to be full of pathos or inner drama (though I guess that rules out The Doctor as well). I'm not quite sure I want totally cold and clinical, but I definitely want someone who's not thinking about how much the resident Vulcan XO annoys him, or about the game he has later with the Operations Chief. I want someone who's highly competent, got like a laser-like and almost obsessive focus on their patient, who's compassionate though not with maudlin sentimentality, has a high regard for human life, and who knows when to stand up to opposing forces who may not be seeing the whole picture or may be focused on their agenda at hand.
With this all in mind, my list would have to be:
1. Crusher: Can't beat an instinctively nurturing mother who has the ear and heart of the Captain and gets to call him by his first name (and even chasten him from time to time).
2. Phlox: Quirky, but from the times I watched Ent., always seemed to be interested in learning something new, and showing genuine interest in other humanoid cultures and their physiology.
3. Pulaski: Not the greatest bedside manner, true, but clearly functions with a laser-like focus.
4. Bones: Very ethical and moral, but a bit too argumentative. Save the "offended humanist" drama for the lecture hall.
5. Bashir: Very smart, and qualified, but goes back and forth a bit too much between inadequacy and overconfidence.
6. Doctor: Dr. Frasier Crane meets Dr. Percival Cox. Not the greatest combination when you're |touch and go".
With this all in mind, my list would have to be:
