Poll on the nature of "Star Trek"

Based on what we know, regardless of the source of the information, what is your educated guess on the nature of the film?

Voted for a prequel, based on what we know it seems to be the most likely. But who knows at this point?

By the way, way to be impartial with the poll there, big guy. Jar Jar Trek?

I also voted "Canonical Prequel".

After watching the ComiCon 07 video, as well as reading countless articles on Trekmovie, I think a canonical prequel is the most likely scenario. J.J. has spoken of remaining faithful to Star Trek's longstanding history, while still bringing a new spin on the franchise. This marginalizes the chance of a reboot, since a reboot would shove all of canon out the window and start fresh.

Oh, and DeafPoet, I also agree about the leaning bias in the poll.

J.

Canonical prequel. It may deviate from established continuity at some points (things that I will probably consider minor, like how the computer voice sounds, for instance) but based on what we've heard so far it does not appear to be a complete break with continuity.

A BSG-style reboot would connotate massive, wholesale changes to character and situation, something that is not at all indicated by the stuff we've seen and heard from the writers and JJ Abrams. I wouldn't be opposed to such a reboot, but it's not what we're getting. We're getting something that may look very different in terms of design, but the characters and situations will be very familiar to the Trek of old.

I think of it as a remake rather than a reboot or a 'prequel.'

Or "update" might be even more accurate.

The artists of 2007 are significantly different from those of 1967.

It will be different.

Will it completely rewrite the mythos? Not likely.

Retconing is something that's occurred in all four spin-offs, but it does not make them reboots.

This is defiantly agenda pool. I would have had third choice Remake; which is revisualization and modernization of Star Trek Universe and but the Utopian vision of Roddenberry and characters he created will pretty much be the same.
p.s. i hope Matt wont be pissed at me :)

Somewhere in the middle, really, but "canonical prequel" is probably closer to the truth.

And, yeah, skewed poll.

A poll worthy of TNZ, only needs a mention of Hillary wanting it to be a prequel to complete the skew.

Of your two very narrow options, the prequel option is closed, imho. while visually updated and some more constrictive details ignored, I see it being established-canon faithful.

"Meesah so 'CITED 'bout dissah big bom-bad Star Trekkin' prEEE-kwill!"

This is going to be a remake a'la Peter Jackson's King Kong, and Lord of the Rings.

Could someone do a pic of Jar Jar the Redshirt being hit by disruptor fire?

So with all these votes from people who think it's a canonical prequel:

What logic is this based on?

Unless the characters in the pictures we've seen are from beyond Star Trek Nemesis, then it can't go along with what was established.

We know what the academy uniforms looked like when Kirk was in it.

A redesign in any sense = a reboot. There is no middle ground.

JJ Abrams said so, for one thing.

Yes, it can.

:guffaw: Good one.
