ENOUGH WITH THE FRELLING BORG ALREADY!!!!!! This just proves how creatively bankrupt the monster called Bermaga is. If they air this episode I'm going to start sending dried horse turds to both of 'em in protest.

I absolutely LOVE this idea!

I've actually been waiting for something like this since "Broken Bow"--an absolute continuity violation.

B&B know full well that the Borg weren't discovered until the 24th-Century. By having the Borg in the 22nd-Century--as a result of events in "Star Trek: First Contact"--it will definitely imply that ENT exists in an altered timeline from the one that originally produced TOS, TNG, DS9 & VOY...

As far as we know, the Temporal Cold War could be about restoring or destroying the original Trek timeline...

Only if the big surprise is not the founding of the Fedration, but the early discovery of Borg tech leads to the Earth empire and this is in fact the mirror universe, and we're watching going bad...

Altough I must admit I like that idea, I seriously don't think Berman & Braga have that much foresight to do something like that. If this was JMS, on the other hand, that would be a different matter entirely. My only real problem with this premise is that the casual viewer (whether they be a trekkie or not) might not appreciate or understand the idea. It might not be until after the fact that anyone would like this idea and look back say "Ok, that wasn't that bad after all." Frankly, if that's the route they do take, it'll appear in my eyes (and probably in lot of others) as a huge act of covering their asses for poor writing.

Enh. I can accept the Borg episode as described ONLY if the Borg assimilate the two or three scientists they are said to assimilate, then decide that humanity's technology 'isn't worthy of assimilation.' It would be interesting to see the human race being assigned its 'species number', but there has to be a good reason why the Borg don't immediately open a transwarp corridor to assimilate all of Earth, as well as to retrieve the (for the current day futuristic) demolished sphere.

PS: Hmmm... Is it me or the Poll results are totaly screwed up? As hard As I look if I add the results together there is more then 100% it is around 150% or maybe more?

Yeah, that didn't look right to me either. But if you ignore the numbers and just look at the bars it does appear that (at the moment) more people are willing to wait and see (or just love the idea) than are rejecting the idea out of hand.

Cheers

Re: POLL: How Do You Feel About the Borg on Enterp

I'll reserve judgement until I actually see it. As long as overall continuity is maintained, I won't mind. If this is going to be Enterprise's one Borg story, o.k., no sweat, but based on whats been establised in TNG, the end of "Reneration" has got to be one in which there is a coverup, or Starfleet never really discovers who the Borg really are. Like I said, I'll wait and see. Although, I must admit to being intrigued by the story concept that these 24th century Borg are the survivors of the crashed fragments of the Borg sphere destroyed over Earth by the Enterprise-E in "First Contact." If handled well, this could be quite a good episode. :borg:

Re: POLL: How Do You Feel About the Borg on Enterp

It's the one episode where you actually HOPE they'll use the reset button.

Re: POLL: How Do You Feel About the Borg on Enterp

Ok idea if done correctly. I'm surprised that the vote is as split as it is. I expected more hate votes.

Re: POLL: How Do You Feel About the Borg on Enterp

THIS IS A DESPICIBLE ACTION TAKEN BY THE MORONS IN CHARGE.

THIS SERIES IS THE DESTRUCTION OF TREK AND IT MUST BE CANCELLED FOR THE SAKE OF THE FRANCHISE.

THIS SERIES IS ALREADY ON THE VERGE OF CANCELLATION, BUT THE BORG NOW SEALS ITS FATE.

THEY FORCE ANOTHER SERIES UPON TREK FANS WHILEST STILL TRYING TO COME TO TERMS WITH ENDSHAME, AND ITS GOING ON FORWARD WHERE VOYAGER SHAMELESSLEY LEFT OFF AND IS NOT SHOWING ANY SIGNS OF CHANGING.

THE IDIOTS HAVE LEARNED NOTHING, THEY CONTINUE TO IGNORE WHAT FANS HAVE TRIED TO TELL THEM, AND POOR VIEWING FIGURES AND PROFITS HAVE SUFFERED.

SO WHAT DO THEY DO? THE EXACT OPPOSITE.

THANKS FOR NOTHING B&B.

Re: POLL: How Do You Feel About the Borg on Enterp

I'll wait and see how the episode turns out, unlike a lot of people on the BBS i try not to judge something before i see it.

Re: POLL: How Do You Feel About the Borg on Enterp

I voted "wait and see." I plan to wait to see it before deciding.

However, I think it is a bad idea because so many fans (probably me included) will find it nearly impossible to view the episode on its merits now that the 'Borg'-word has been used.

So how did you vote in the poll?

Looks like a last-ditch effort to save a travesty. Get ready for "the little ship easily triumphs repeatedly and consistently" alllll over agaaaaaain.

Complete with its BORG polarised hull plating, or is that ablative armour?

BORG modified phase canons, or is that phasers?

BORG modified missiles, or is that Quantum Torpedoes?

BORG modified warp engines, or is that Transwarp Drive?

All we need now is the Delta quadrant and the Malon.

That would be the greatest risk Trek has ever taken, and as such would totally rule. B+B don't have the guts to do it though.

This is a fucking awful idea. It reeks of creative burnout, and is yet another indication that Behr and co should be producing this.

How do I feel about the Borg on Enterprise? Here goes.

1. It's totally unnecessary. Someone please outline what, specifically, in Archer's time necessitates a Borg episode. It would be better to let sleeping dogs, frozen drones and crashed Borg spheres lie.

2. It can be done well. The potential is there, and if they had to do a Borg storyline, better this than meeting a stray Cube or stumbling across a transwarp corridor or something.

3. It could be very bold. If B&B cement somehow that Enterprise is infact in an "alternate universe" due to the events of First Contact it could well reinvigorate the series. Is this the 'slight revision' of the mission, stated here: http://www.trektoday.com/news/210203_01.shtml ? I doubt it, but we'll see.

4. It could be a complete disaster. Given B&B's track record with introducing future races and skirting close to the edge of / overstepping continuity for no real payoff (Acquisition's a fantastic example), I don't have a lot of faith in them to pull this off. I could easily see the NX-01 crew hearing the Borg catchphrase over comm, meticulously and medically examining a captured drone, being partially 'assimilated', witnessing the Borg flee through a transwarp conduit to the Delta Quadrant, and maybe even seeing a cube ship. It could be a complete mess in terms of continuity.

The Borg are unnecessary and an event which skirts disaster and total destruction of any sort of organised Trek 'history' or mythos. It could be done well, but I don't personally hold any hope of B&B accomplishing a lofty goal given their track record with stupidity such as Acquisition, the all-too-dodgy contact with holograms and holodecks and the liberal use of cloaking device and time travel.

^ What RAZ said...

I voted "Terrible Idea". Yea, it MIGHT be an entertaining episode, but it does show the total lack of creativity on the part of the producers!

They are stuck on TNG+ characters and technology when what they promised was old tech and older races that we saw in TOS.

Think of it this way... if I order a $25 hammer and get a $250 drill, I might enjoy the IDEA of it... but it still didn't get what I needed to do the job - so ultimately, I'm not a happy customer.

Sadly, Enterprise is turning into another Voyager. Better cast maybe, but the potential of a new and daring premise is being replaced by the rehashed plots and characters we've already seen. I'm not a happy customer.
